Extension of “Authorization to Stay”

Introduction

Service Coverage

Non-residents who need to remain in Macao may apply for Extension of Authorization to Stay or Exceptional Extension of Authorization to Stay according to Article 11 or 29 of Law No. 16/2021 and Article 11 of Administrative Regulation No. 38/2021 if justifiable reasons (e.g. force majeure, humanitarian or exceptionally substantiated reasons) are given.

Target Groups and Application Eligibility

Target Group

1. Extension of Authorization to Stay: Persons who need to extend the limit of Authorization to Stay for up to a maximum of 90 accumulated days.
2. Application by Residence Authorization applicants pending result: Persons who are pending a result after submitting an application for Residence Authorization to the Residence and Stay Affairs Department of the Public Security Police Force or the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute and hence need to extend the limit of Authorization to Stay.
3. Extension of Authorization to Stay by applicants of Residence Authorization while waiting for application result: Persons who need to extend the limit of their Authorization to Stay after applying for Residence Authorization via the Residence and Stay Affairs Department of the Public Security Police Force or the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) and while waiting for the application result

Application Eligibility

1. Meeting the relevant provisions of the Legal Regime of Immigration Control, Stay and Residence Authorization of the Macao Special Administrative Region (e.g. 1. in possession of a valid passport/travel document/identification document legally accepted for entry to and departure from Macao; and 2. not being subject to legal impediment.).
2. Limit of stay granted in original Authorization to Stay not sufficient for Residence Authorization applicant to stay in Macao legally until he/she learns about the application result. [only applicable in applications made by Residence Authorization applicants pending result]
