Macao SAR Passport holders denied boarding when transiting to Mexico

Recently, the Identification Services Bureau received a case regarding Macao SAR passport holders who were denied boarding while traveling to Mexico. The Macao residents stated that while transiting at the airport in Beijing, the airline staff informed them of a temporary change in the entry policy of the Mexican immigration authority, stating that the travel document they held no longer met the visa-free entry conditions, and thus they were refused boarding to Mexico. Upon receiving the case, the Identification Services Bureau immediately contacted the residents and made inquiries with the Consulate General of Mexico in Hong Kong on the matter. The Consulate General of Mexico in Hong Kong replied that up to date, there has been no change to Mexico's visa-free entry policy for the Macao SAR Passport. The Identification Services Bureau is currently actively liaising with the relevant airline to ascertain the specific details of the incident and is continuously following up the matter.
