All UM accounting programmes receive double ACCA accreditation with maximum exemptions
Following the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants’ (ACCA) recent accreditation of the Master of Science in Accounting programme with maximum exemptions of professional papers, the University of Macau’s (UM) Bachelor of Science in Accounting programme has also received re-accreditation from the ACCA. Both programmes have also been accredited by several international professional accounting bodies. The re-accreditation reinforces international recognition of the taught accounting programmes at all levels offered by the Department of Accounting and Information Management, Faculty of Business Administration (FBA), UM. These prestigious external accreditations have placed the FBA’s accounting programmes among the top in the market and have demonstrated FBA’s status as a flagship business faculty in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Tourist price index (TPI) for the 2nd quarter of 2020
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Tourist Price Index (TPI) for the second quarter of 2020 dropped by 4.97% year-on-year to 121.70. The decrease was mainly attributable to lower hotel room rates and falling prices of clothing; yet, dearer prices of jewellery and higher airfares offset part of the decrease. Among the various sections of goods and services, price indices of Accommodation (-19.37%) and Clothing & Footwear (-18.17%) recorded a relatively large year-on-year decline, whereas the indices of Transport & Communications (+11.14%) and Miscellaneous Goods (+5.61%) increased.

Consul-General of Angola in Macao Visits MPI to Promote Talent Cultivation
The Consul-General of Angola in Macao, Eduardo Velasco Galiano, and his delegation visited Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) on 10 July and were welcomed by the President of the Institute, Professor Im Sio Kei. The two parties had friendly talks on strengthening cooperation in higher education and talent cultivation. The meeting was a pleasant one.

Festival “Celebrating the 15th Anniversary of the Inscription of the Historic Centre of Macao on the World Heritage List” opens featuring two-day activities to spread the spirit of “Protecting and Appreciating Our World Heritage Together”
In celebration of the 15th anniversary of the inscription of the “Historic Centre of Macao” on the World Heritage List, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from its Portuguese acronym) hosts a festival “Celebrating the 15th Anniversary of the Inscription of the Historic Centre of Macao on the World Heritage List” on 11 and 12 July at the “World Heritage Youth Education Base”, located in the Mandarin’s House and the Lilau Square. The opening ceremony was held at 11am today in the Mandarin’s House and was officiated by the Representative of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture and Chief of Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Ho Ioc San; the Director of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao S.A.R., Wan Sucheng; the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Mok Ian Ian; the Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes; the President of the Executive Committee and Chief Executive Officer of Air Macau Company Limited, Chen Hong; the Deputy General Manager of Bank of China Macao Branch, Chan Hio Peng; and the Vice Presidents of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Leong Wai Man and Cheong Lai San. Several members of the Cultural Heritage Committee and representatives of local cultural heritage associations were also invited. During the opening ceremony, a recognition ceremony of the 2019 Macao Cultural Heritage training programme “Little Little Docent” was held to commend the members who had completed the programme. All the guests, members and parents witnessed the fruitful achievements of the programme and the ceremony was held in a lively atmosphere.

Special direct admission to UM’s undergraduate programmes opens for applications now
As the only public comprehensive university in Macao, the University of Macau (UM) has the responsibility of nurturing local talent. Starting today (10 July), UM will accept undergraduate applications for the 2020/2021 academic year from students whose studies have been affected by the novel coronavirus pandemic, including secondary school graduates who originally planned to pursue further education abroad as well as students from Macao who are currently enrolled in bachelor’s degree programmes at non-local universities but wish to continue their studies in Macao. The deadline for applications is 17 July.

Mortgage loans statistics – May 2020
According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, new approvals of residential mortgage loans (RMLs) increased while those of commercial real estate loans (CRELs) decreased in May 2020. With regard to the outstanding balances, RMLs increased whereas CRELs witnessed a decline.
