Coordinated Portfolio Investment Survey – 31 December 2019

According to the statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, on 31 December 2019, investment of Macao residents (including individuals, the government and other legal entities but excluding Macao’s foreign exchange reserves) in securities issued by unrelated non-residents reached MOP921.8 billion at current market value, representing a rise of 14.0% from end-June 2019 or 36.2% from end-2018. Among the various instruments of portfolio investment, equity securities (including mutual funds and investment trust units), long-term debt securities and short-term debt securities were valued at MOP299.6 billion, MOP582.6 billion and MOP39.6 billion respectively. As compared with end-2018, equity securities, long-term debt securities and short-term debt securities increased by 30.8%, 36.0% and 106.8% respectively.



Update on conditions for using Macao-bound special ferry service from Hong Kong International Airport

Macao residents wishing to take the special ferry service from Hong Kong International Airport in order to return home are advised that a previous condition regarding service availability relative to flight landing times has been relaxed.


Further nine agreements to bolster Macao's effort toward poverty relief in Guizhou

The Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, and the Guizhou Provincial Government, have signed a further nine agreements regarding cooperation on poverty alleviation for Guizhou Province.


CE appoints Ms Chan Lou as Director of Government Information Bureau

The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, has appointed Ms Chan Lou as the new Director of the Government Information Bureau (GCS). Ms Chan has been appointed for a period of one year, and her tenure starts on 1 July.




UM, HKBU make new discovery in Alzheimer’s pathogenesis

A research team, led by Prof Lu Jiahong in the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences at the University of Macau (UM), and another research team, led by Prof Li Min in the School of Chinese Medicine at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), have revealed the molecular mechanism by which the autophagy-related gene NRBF2 (Nuclear Receptor Binding Factor 2) regulates the maturation of autophagosomes and the pathological protein degradation in Alzheimer's disease, which suggests a potential new therapeutic strategy for treating the disease. The study has been published online by the authoritative international academic journal Autophagy.



Cultural Affairs Bureaus's Performance Venues Reopen from 26 June onwards

Following the earlier reopening of cultural facilities and rehearsal venues, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) will resume operation of its performance venues from 26 June (Friday) onwards, including the Macao Cultural Centre, Dom Pedro V Theatre, Black Box Theatre in the Old Court Building, Macao Contemporary Art Center - Navy Yard No. 2 and the Macao Conservatory Auditorium. IC has taken into account the opinions of the Health Bureau and formulated relevant anti-epidemic guidelines, performed a simulation exercise as well as a thorough cleansing and disinfection of the venues, in order to provide a safe and healthy environment for performers and audiences.
