Cultural Affairs Bureau presents a series of cultural activities celebrating the Lunar New Year of the Rat

In order to celebrate the Chinese New Year with the public and promote traditional Chinese customs, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from its Portuguese acronym) organizes the event “Let’s Celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Rat”. Over 27 activities will be held in various districts and cultural facilities, allowing the public to celebrate the Spring Festival in a rich cultural and artistic atmosphere.



There are Many Holidays in Late January (a Contribution Month) and FSS Reminds Residents to Pay Contributions as Early as Possible

January is a contribution month of the Social Security Fund. Employers are required to pay in this month the obligatory system contributions for their local long-term employees for the fourth quarter of 2019. If a non-resident worker is hired, the employer is required to pay the employment fee at the same time. In addition, beneficiaries of the arbitrary system are also required to pay contributions within January. In addition, the Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) will be closed for the Lunar New Year from the afternoon of 24th January to 29th January. In order to avoid long queues at peak period at the end of the month, employers and individuals should make their payment as early as possible and make good use of the electronic payment channels.


Macao officials in Wuhan for latest updates on pneumonia outbreak

The Macao Government has dispatched a team of officials to Wuhan, Hubei Province, in order for them to learn more about the latest developments regarding a pneumonia outbreak in that mainland city, particularly appropriate treatment for infected patients, and measures to prevent or if necessary control the spread of the identified coronavirus.


Mortgage loans statistics – November 2019

According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, new approvals of residential mortgage loans (RMLs) and commercial real estate loans (CRELs) both decreased in November 2019. With regard to the outstanding balances, RMLs increased whereas CRELs witnessed a decrease.

UM Open Day shows interdisciplinary approach; Parents hope their children will get into UM

The University of Macau (UM) held the Open Day today (12 January). The event attracted over 10,000 people, including students and their parents, Macao residents, and residents of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Through the event, participants learned more about UM’s education model, research achievements, and vibrant campus life. Some parents say that UM has a beautiful campus and excellent teaching and learning facilities. They hope to see their children study at UM, because they believe it will broaden their children’s horizons, enhance their competitiveness, and help them transition to the next stage of their lives more easily, whether they choose to pursue further studies or find a job after graduation.


Exhibition of Weaving, Dyeing and Embroidery Skill Art of Jiangsu Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region will open soon

The Chinese New Year is around the corner. “The World at Their Fingertips – Exhibition of Weaving, Dyeing and Embroidery Skill Art of Jiangsu Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region” will be held from 22 January to 16 February, at the Chun Chou Tong Pavilion of Lou Lim Ioc Garden, featuring the traditional craft skills and showcasing the unique artworks of weaving, dyeing and embroidery from Jiangsu Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The opening ceremony will be held on Tuesday, 21 January, at 6:30pm and the exhibition is organized by the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao S.A.R. Government, the Department of Culture and Tourism of Jiangsu Province and the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and co-organized by the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao S.A.R. and the Centre for Ethnic and Folk Literature and Art Development of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China.


The main thematic exhibition of “The Long Journey” opens at Macao Museum of Art Featuring over a hundred cultural relics to showcase cultural exchange along the Maritime Silk Road

Organized by the Macao Museum of Art (MAM), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and the Palace Museum, co-organized by the Macao Government Tourism Office and the Macao Foundation and supported by Macao Daily News, the large-scale exhibition “The Long Journey: The Forbidden City and Maritime Silk Road” was inaugurated on 11 January, at 11am, at the Exhibition Gallery on the 4th floor of MAM. The opening ceremony was held in a lively atmosphere and was officiated by the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, Ao Ieong U; the Deputy Director of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, Liu Wei; the Counselor and Director of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the Macao SAR, Zhu Xiji; the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, Mok Ian Ian; the Deputy Director of Publicity and Education Department of the Palace Museum, Guo Meixia; the Deputy Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office of the Macao SAR Government, Hoi Io Meng; the Member of the Administrative Committee of the Macao Foundation, Au Weng Chi; the Director of Macao Daily News, Lok Po; and the Curator of the Macao Science Center, Sio Hon Pan and was attended by the Chief of Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, Ho Ioc San; the Advisors of the Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, Lam Wan Nei and Lo Hou Chi; the members of the Cultural Consultative Committee and the Cultural Heritage Committee.
