Consumer Council released 3rd supermarket price survey report of the current month

The Consumer Council conducted its ‘Supermarket price survey’ of the first-half of November on 11 November for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 10 supermarkets in Santo António Parish. Consumers may now check the report data on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo), the “Supermarket Price Information Platform” app, or the Council’s WeChat account.


CE to deliver work summary for 2019 tomorrow

The Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, will tomorrow (Tuesday) attend a plenary session of the Legislative Assembly, to give a summary on policy implementation work in 2019; and to introduce a budget proposal for 2020.


Six research projects receive Academic Research Grant from the Cultural Affairs Bureau

In order to encourage original academic research on Macao’s culture and the exchanges between Macao, Mainland China and other countries, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) has set up the Academic Research Grant programme. After an evaluation process, six research projects from local and overseas scholars received the 2019 Academic Research Grant.

Demographic statistics for the 3rd quarter of 2019

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the total population was 676,100 as at end-September 2019, an increase of 4,100 quarter-to-quarter; female population (360,000) accounted for 53.2% of the total.


“Fusion – Exhibition of Artworks of Macao Artists 2019” opens in Beijing showcasing Macao’s artistic features

Co-organized by the Macao Museum of Art (MAM), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and the National Art Museum of China (NAMOC), the exhibition “Fusion – Exhibition of Artworks of Macao Artists 2019” was inaugurated on 8 November at the NAMOC in Beijing, showcasing a total of 76 pieces (sets) of artworks by 65 Macao artists, including calligraphy, Chinese ink paintings, water paintings, oil paintings, prints, mulit-media pieces, ceramics, sculptures and installations. The opening ceremony was held in a lively atmosphere and was officiated by the Member of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and Vice President of the China Democratic League, Xu Hui; the former Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Mexico, Qiu Xiaoqi; the Director of the Department of Exchange and Cooperation of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, Wu Wei; the Director of the National Art Museum of China and Vice President of the China Artists Association, Wu Weishan; the Deputy Director of the Palace Museum, Zhao Guoying; the First Class Inspector of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, Li Jiangang; the Deputy Director of Beijing Liaison Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao S.A.R., Zhang Xueqian; the Deputy Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee of the National Art Museum of China and Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, Zhang Baicheng; the Deputy Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee of the China National Academy of Painting and Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, Wang Qingwen; the Vice President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Chan Kai Chon; the Director of the Minsheng Art Museum in Beijing, Zhou Xujun; the former Director of the Nanjing Museum, Xu Huping; the Deputy Director of the School of Design of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Lu Pinchang and the renowned sculptors Sheng Yang and Cao Chun, with the presence of many cultural and artistic professionals from both cities.


Tap Siac Craft Market kicks off this Friday

Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from its Portuguese acronym), the Tap Siac Craft Market will be held at Tap Siac Square for two consecutive weekends from 15 to 17 November and from 22 to 24 November 2019. The opening ceremony will be held at 6pm on 15 November. All are welcome to participate and enjoy the creative atmosphere this autumn.

Scholarship for Outstanding Students Studying in Macao facilitates the internationalisation of higher education student enrolment

To strengthen the exchange in higher education between Macao and the countries along the Belt and Road and Portuguese-speaking countries, the Higher Education Fund launched the Scholarship for Outstanding Students (Portuguese-speaking and ASEAN countries) Studying in Macao this year. The scheme aims to attract outstanding students from Portuguese-speaking countries and the countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Scholarship recipients are chosen from the students enrolled in local higher education institutions in the academic year 2019/2020.


UM awards graduation certificates to 800 postgraduates Tam Chon Weng encourages graduates to contribute to Macao and China’s development

The University of Macau (UM) today (9 November) held the Ceremony for the Conferment of Honorary and Higher Degrees 2019. This year, more than 800 students from PhD degree programmes, master’s degree programmes, and postgraduate diploma/certificate programmes received graduation certificates. At the ceremony, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Tam Chon Weng, acting as the representative of Macao SAR Chief Executive and UM Chancellor Chui Sai On, said that the Macao SAR government will continue to support the development of first-rate programmes at UM. He expressed hope that UM would continue to nurture professionals who love China and Macao, and attain more achievements in scientific research, in order to make more contributions to the sustainable development of Macao and China.
