Macao Orchestra 2019-20 Season opens with a concert featuring internationally acclaimed cellist Alban Gerhardt

The Macao Orchestra (OM, from its Portuguese acronym), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, held the opening ceremony of its 2019-20 Concert Season on 31 August, at the lobby of the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium, followed by the season opening concert “Alban Gerhardt and Macao Orchestra” that officially opens the new season. The opening ceremony was officiated by theCommissioner of theOfficeof theCommissionerof theMinistryofForeign Affairs in theMacao SAR, Shen Beili; the Director of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, Wan Sucheng; the Directorof theMacao Government Tourism Office, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes; the Acting President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Leong Wai Man; the Chairman of the China Symphony DevelopmentFoundation, Chen Guangxian; the Vice President of Brand Marketing of MGM, Catarina Lio; the Integrated Marketing Director of Personal Banking and Channel Management Department of the Bank of China (Macau Branch), Crystal Lok; the Head of the Department of Performing Arts Development of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Celia Iu; the Music Director of the Macao Orchestra, Lu Jia and the General Manager of the Macao Orchestra, Rebecca Chou.


Registration for the marathon and half marathon categories of the "Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao SAR – 2019 Galaxy Entertainment Macao International Marathon" is full. Registration for mini marathon starts tomorrow.

Registration for the “Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao SAR – 2019 Galaxy Entertainment Macao International Marathon”, jointly organized by the Sports Bureau and the General Association of Athletics of Macau and title-sponsored by Galaxy Entertainment Group, started today and has received overwhelming response. The Organizing Committee announced that all quotas for the marathon and half marathon categories have been taken up.


A nomination committee approved for Legislative Assembly by-election

An application for permission to form a nomination committee has been approved by the Electoral Affairs Commission for the Legislative Assembly Election. It permits the formation of a candidate list for a by-election that is to be held for a Legislative Assembly seat.


MICE statistics for the 2nd quarter of 2019

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that number of MICE events held in the second quarter of 2019 increased by 30 year-on-year to 357, including 345 meetings & conferences, 10 exhibitions and 2 incentives. Meanwhile, total number of participants and attendees dropped by 13.6% to 353,000.


Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for July 2019

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitors on package tours increased by 14.5% year-on-year to 870,000 in July 2019. Package tour visitors from mainland China (714,000), Hong Kong (12,000) and Taiwan (63,000) rose by 19.0%, 19.1% and 2.7% respectively, while those from the Republic of Korea (45,000) dropped by 9.0%. In the first seven months of 2019, there were 5,785,000 package tour visitors, a growth of 15.1% year-on-year.


Heritage Exhibition of a Traditional Pawnshop Business closes temporarily for maintenance

Due to the installation of an air conditioning system, the Heritage Exhibition of a Traditional Pawnshop Business, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), will be closed from 2 to 6 September, reopening to the public on 7 September.


External merchandise trade statistics for July 2019

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise export for July 2019 amounted to MOP1.04 billion, up by 13.6% year-on-year. Value of re-exports (MOP918 million) increased by 16.0%, with that of Beauty, cosmetic & skin-care products and Diamond & diamond jewellery surging by 230.6% and 166.1% respectively. However, value of domestic exports (MOP124 million) declined by 1.7%, with that of Copper & articles thereof falling by 36.2%. Total merchandise import fell by 3.2% year-on-year to MOP7.20 billion, of which imports of Mobile phones, Construction materials and Gold jewellery dropped by 54.4%, 41.1% and 22.9% respectively; meanwhile, imports of Beauty, cosmetic & skin-care products and Food & beverages increased by 41.2% and 19.6% respectively. Merchandise trade deficit in July totalled MOP6.16 billion.


Music arena trendsetter to present a line-up of innovative concerts Tickets for the Macao Chinese Orchestra 2019-2020 Concert Season now on sale

The Macao Chinese Orchestra (OCHM, from the Portuguese acronym), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will kick off its 2019-2020 concert season with the opening concert “Festival”, to be held on 1 September (Sunday), at 8pm, at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium. Tickets for the new concert season are now on sale at the Macau Ticketing Network.


Government receives notice of operational event at Taishan nuclear power plant

Macao’s Unitary Police Service has today received a notice regarding an operational event at a facility run by Taishan Nuclear Power Plant.
