The “Traditional Music and Dance Performances from China and Portuguese-speaking Countries”, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, one of the highlights of the “2^nd Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries”, will be held from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, from 29 June to 30 June, and from 6 July to 7 July, at Iao Hon Market Garden and Carmo Fair, Taipa, presenting a number of extraordinary performances. Art troupes from Jingzhou, Hubei Province, and art groups from eight Portuguese-speaking countries were invited to bring enthusiastic music and dance performances to the community, showcasing the unique charm of Chinese and Portuguese performing arts and creating a festive atmosphere. Admission to the activities is free and the public is welcome to participate.

The Consumer Council conducted its ‘Supermarket price survey’ of the second-half of June on 26 June for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 10 supermarkets in Santo António Parish. Consumers may now check the report data on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo), the “Supermarket Price Information Platform” app, or the Council’s WeChat account.

Dr Jia Yanwei, an assistant professor from the State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed Signal VLSI (AMSV), University of Macau (UM), recently received an Innovation Award at the Ninth International Multidisciplinary Conference on Optofluidics (IMCO) for her study titled ‘Digital Microfluidics for Disease Diagnostics’. A PhD student from Dr Jia’s research group, namely Shen Ren, received the Best Poster Award at the same conference for his paper titled ‘Hairpin-structured PCR Enhancer for Digital Microfluidic Systems’. The awards are testament to their contributions in applying digital microfluidics in biomedical sciences.

According to the statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, on 31 December 2018, investment of Macao residents (including individuals, the government and other legal entities but excluding Macao’s foreign exchange reserves) in securities issued by unrelated non-residents reached MOP684.5 billion at current market value, representing a decline of 1.8% from end-June 2018 but a rise of 2.9% from end-2017. Among the various instruments of portfolio investment, equity securities (including mutual funds and investment trust units), long-term debt securities and short-term debt securities were valued at MOP237.1 billion, MOP428.3 billion and MOP19.1 billion respectively. As compared with end-2017, equity securities and short-term debt securities dropped by 1.0% and 34.4% respectively, whereas long-term debt securities rose by 8.0%.

It helps to deepen and extend students’ understanding of science and engineering knowledge with hands-on experience and vivid on-site practical demonstration.

Tickets for two thematic activities, “China and Portuguese-speaking Countries Film Festival” and “Traditional Chinese Strings and Fado” Concert by the Macao Chinese Orchestra will be available on 22 June (Saturday) and 25 June (Tuesday), respectively.
