The first edition of the “Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries”, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), offers a series of excellent events. The “Cultural Forum between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries” will be held on 7 and 8 July for two consecutive days, on the 4^th floor of the Macao Tower Convention and Entertainment Centre, aiming to promote cultural exchange between China and Portuguese-speaking countries and establish an exchange and communication platform. Specialists from cultural sector were invited to take part in the Forum and offer thematic presentations. The Forum is open to the general public.

The University of Macau (UM) today (28 June) held an inauguration ceremony for the Macao Base for Primary & Secondary STEM Education and an opening ceremony for the STEM Programme, which attracted many prominent community members, teachers and students from local secondary schools, and parents. With UM’s centre for science and engineering promotion as the core component, the base will launch a series of STEM programmes to support science promotion in Macao and provide continuous training for teachers and students from local secondary schools. The base will also advance science promotion in Macao by collaborating with all strata of society.

Macao Polytechnic Institute held the graduation ceremony for the academic year 2017-2018, and 660 students were granted with a bachelor’s degree. The ceremony initiated with a flag-raising ceremony accompanied by the national anthem, the first of this agenda at graduation ceremonies in Macao higher education institutions. Acting Chief Executive of Macao, Ms. Chan Hoi Fan, officiated the ceremony, and reiterated the SAR government’s strategies of “Developing Macao with Education” and “Constructing Macao with Talents”. She pointed it out that the SAR government committed itself steadfast to building an effective education system, improving supportive policies, and increasing resource input, by being firmly rooted in innovation; and to promoting education equality by benefiting all citizens with equal and practical access to education fruits, to realize social equality through education equality.
