External merchandise trade statistics for June 2017
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise export for June 2017 amounted to MOP938 million, up by 14.3% year-on-year; value of re-exports (MOP787 million) increased by 17.0%, with that of Machines, apparatus & parts (MOP224 million) surging by 221.6%, and value of domestic exports (MOP151 million) rose by 2.3%. Total merchandise import went up by 10.4% year-on-year to MOP6.17 billion, of which imports of Motor cars & motorcycles and Watches expanded by 96.1% and 51.8% respectively. Merchandise trade deficit amounted to MOP5.24 billion.

GMBPF 2017 resounding success
Jointly organised by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) and Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province, Guangdong and Macao Branded Product Fair 2017 (GMBPF 2017), held for three consecutive days, ended today (30th) and proved to be a resounding success. The “Guangdong & Macao Delicacies Express”, “Station Avenue”, and four main pavilions had a vibrant and joyful ambience while exhibitors reported pleasing sales volumes. During the three-day event, the number of visitors was pretty much the same as last year and a total of 72 business matching sessions were conducted. This year, GMBPF was, once again, held concurrently with the Macao Franchise Expo 2017. The organisers have arranged exhibitors of the two events to carry out a field trip in Macao in order to enable them to experience the different aspects of Macao and promote the economic development of the Macao community.

Statistics of Investment Residency in the First Half-Year of 2017
In the first half-year of 2017, a total of 171 initial applications for temporary residency for managerial personnel, technical and professional qualification holders were received by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) (a decrease of 5 compared with the same period last year), 6 initial applications for major investment / investment plans (a decrease of 8 compared with the same period last year), representing 96.61% and 3.39% of the total of 177 initial applications in the first half-year of 2017. Approved cases for managerial personnel, technical and professional qualification holders amounted to 158 (an increase of 112 compared with the same period last year), approved applications for major investment / investment plans totalled 4 (an increase of 3 compared with the same period last year).

GMBPF 2017 records booming sales and visitor numbers
For the first time, GMBPF 2017 has assembled a variety of quality and characteristic products from Guangdong, Indonesia, Macao, and Myanmar.. The newly added Myanmar Products Exhibition & Sales Area has infused the event with more diverse elements, providing more buying options at even lower prices to the general public. As the second day of the event fell on a Saturday, more residents, tourists and their families flocked to the fair to buy their favourite products. Some residents said that GMBPF is a Macao brand exhibition and has become a must-visit destination for families during summer. Some exhibitors said that both the sales and visitor numbers at the GMBPF are above expectations and they expect the sales volume to soar on Sunday.

With a total area of 9,000 square metres and 345 booths, GMBPF 2017 is being held concurrently with Macao Franchise Expo 2017 to maximise the cumulative effects, creating a new opportunity for co-operation between merchants from home and abroad.

2017MFE Grand Opening Enterprises Jointly Explore Business Opportunities Through Franchising
The 2017 Macao Franchise Expo (2017MFE) opened today (28 July) at Exhibition Hall A of the Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel. Hundreds of franchise and chain operators, as well as brand representatives are attending the three-day event, which takes as its theme “Brand Expansion Continues – Business Opportunities to be Seized”. MFE, a major annual event promoting international brand co-operation, serves as an important platform to promote franchise and retail chain business co-operation for participating exhibitors and professional visitors. During the first day of 2017MFE, a total of seven co-operation protocols were signed, involving chambers of commerce and associations. The deals covered projects in several sectors, including: food and beverage; agency services for marketing branded products; and franchising of commercial brands.
