Thematic pack “Literature and its Characters – The Outlaws of the Marsh”

Since the first issue of "Literature and its Characters – The Outlaws of the Marsh" released by Macao Post in 2003, the second issue of the series was released in 2014. “The Outlaws of the Marsh” is based on a peasant uprising during the Song Dynasty. Within this framework, the novel features the spirit of freedom and rebellion against unrighteousness and injustice. The work is characterized by its vivid and sinuous plots as well as its individualized characterization. It is a well-received masterpiece known to everyone, with the aim of transmitting the knowledge of Chinese tales to the next generations. Macao Post will launch the thematic pack "Literature and its Characters – The Outlaws of the Marsh" on 1st March 2016. Commemorative postmark cancellation service of “10th Anniversary of Communications Museum”

To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Communications Museum, Macao Post announces that a Temporary Post Counter will be set up at our Philately Shop located at Macao Post Headquarters and Communications Museum, from 9:00 to 17:30 on 1st March 2016 to provide the commemorative postmark cancellation service for the “10th Anniversary of Communications Museum”. Welcome to visit and collect Macao Stamps!


“Scenery of the Imperial Palace in Beijing” Issuing ceremony and stamp’s designer autograph session

Coincides with the Macao Museum of Art, which holding the exhibition themed “Ink Wash of the Forbidden City – Paintings by Charles Chauderlot”, Macao Post will held the Issuing Ceremony and Stamp’s Designer Autograph Session of the stamp issue “Scenery of the Imperial Palace in Beijing”, at 12:30 on 1st March 2016 at 3rd floor, Macao Museum of Art. The artist, also the designer of this stamp issue, Charles Chauderlot will be present for Autograph Session scheduled at 12:45 to 14:00. The philatelic products of this stamp issue will be available for sale at the on-site special counter during 12:00 to 15:00.


Commemorative postmark cancellation service of “132nd Anniversary of Macao Post”

Label stamp “Lunar Year of the Monkey”

Please be informed that starting from 9:00a.m. on 22nd February, (Monday) 2016, the new label stamps “Lunar Year of the Monkey” will be available for sale at the designated automatic stamp vending machines as below: (* please find the attached file) The service of the relevant machines will be temporarily suspended for the installation of the new label stamps from 3:00p.m. on 21st February 2016. And the service will be resumed one after another on the next day starting from 9:00a.m. *Each customer of stamp vending machine is limited to 10 minutes for every purchase of stamp on the first day of issue at the above address.


International banking statistics, December 2015

According to the statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, the proportion of international business in the local banking sector dropped in the final quarter of 2015. At end-2015, the share of international assets in total banking assets fell to 84.9% from 86.1% at end-September 2015, while the share of international liabilities in total banking liabilities declined to 80.4% from 82.3%. Non-local currencies continued to be the dominant denomination in international banking transactions. At end-2015, the shares of the pataca in total international assets and total international liabilities were 0.7% and 1.7% respectively. Hong Kong Dollar, US Dollar, the renminbi and other foreign currencies accounted for 41.8%, 36.8%, 14.6% and 6.1% of total international assets as well as 45.3%, 36.1%, 12.3% and 4.6% of total international liabilities respectively. International Banking Assets At end-2015, total international assets dropped by 5.1% from a quarter ago but increased by 12.8% from a year earlier to MOP1,138.7 billion (USD142.6 billion). Within this total, external assets increased by 12.2% year-on-year to MOP841.6 billion while local assets in foreign currencies went up by 14.3% to MOP297.2 billion. As a major component of international assets, external interbank loans grew by 12.0% to MOP385.8 billion. International Banking Liabilities Total international liabilities decreased by 5.9% from three months ago but advanced by 12.6% year-on-year to MOP1,078.6 billion (USD135.1 billion). Of this total, external liabilities and local liabilities in foreign currencies expanded year-on-year by 23.9% to MOP612.8 billion and 0.5% to MOP465.8 billion respectively. Foreign currency deposits held by residents and the MSAR government in local banks continued to form a major component of international liabilities. This type of deposits dropped slightly by 0.9% to MOP422.0 billion at end-2015 from MOP425.8 billion at end-2014. Breakdown of External Banking Assets and Liabilities by Region The majority of external assets and liabilities were related to Asia and Europe. At end-2015, claims on Hong Kong and Mainland China occupied 38.2% and 23.1% of total external assets, while claims on Portugal and the United Kingdom took up 3.5% and 2.4% respectively. On external liabilities, Hong Kong and Mainland China accounted for 45.2% and 21.7% of the total respectively while France and Portugal took up 1.2% and 0.8% respectively. Portuguese-speaking countries represented 3.6% and 1.1% of total external assets and liabilities respectively. The compilation of International Banking Statistics follows the methodology advocated by the Bank for International Settlements in order to facilitate Macao SAR’s participation in the “Locational International Banking Statistics” project of the international organisation.


Consumer Council released its latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ in Sé Parish

Consumer Council conducted its last time ‘Supermarket price survey’ in February on 18 February for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 12 supermarkets in Sé Parish. The latest ‘Supermarket Price Survey’ is now available on Consumer Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo), ‘Supermarket Price Information Platform’ iPhone and Android apps, and on the Council’s WeChat account page. The survey is also available free of charge at the offices of Consumer Council, IACM’s Iao Hon and S. Domingos Markets, bookstores and libraries. Consumers may also access the resources through WAP channels on their mobile phones. With reference to the local six parishes and the number of supermarkets in each parish, the Council has divided around 100 supermarkets into 8 areas for price collection. The Council collects prices from these supermarkets for the provision of a more comprehensive database for consumers to check price discrepancies and make price comparisons according to their desired locations. MGTO continues to work with Hong Kong travel trade to promote Macao and hosted Spring Luncheon in Hong Kong to thank travel trade and incentive partners

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) hosted a spring luncheon in Hong Kong today (18 February) to thank Hong Kong’s travel trade and incentive partners for their support to the tourism development of Macao over the years, and also to strengthen its cooperation with travel trade in promoting Macao. MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes led a delegation, among which includes MGTO Deputy Director Cecilia Tse, from Macao to greet more than 150 travel trade executives at the luncheon. Commissioner for Tourism of Tourism Commission, Commerce and Economic Development Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Cathy Chu; Executive Director of Hong Kong Tourism Board, Anthony Lau; Deputy Chairman of Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong, Gianna Hsu as well as Director of Asia Tourism Exchange Center Ltd., Li Jian Ping, were present in the luncheon among others. During the luncheon, Director Senna Fernandes extended her New Year blessings and appreciation for the support the Hong Kong tourism industry partners had made to promote Macao. Macao welcomed over 30 million visitors in 2015, with Hong Kong being the second largest tourist source market, over 6.4 million Hong Kong residents traveled to Macao last year, registering an increase of 1.7% over 2014. Entering the Year of the Monkey, MGTO will carry on its strenuous efforts to foster diversified and sustainable tourism development in Macao, supporting the Macao SAR Government’s work to speed up the city’s development into a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure. To align with the new promotional theme “Experience Macao Your Own Style”, MGTO hopes visitors can enjoy their trip in Macao in different ways to experience the city’s diverse culture and local colors. To actively act in tune with MGTO’s promotional strategies, MGTO Representative in Hong Kong will strengthen its communication with media and industry partners by regularly organizing seminars, product update presentations, thematic familiarization tours and joint promotions. Besides, the Representative will maximize its use of the internet and social platforms for tourism promotion. Brand new promotional activities will be rolled out this year, once again targeting different market segments including families, youngsters, as well as niche markets such as students, wedding couples and business incentives, to show the diversity of Macao as a destination.


Dr Wong Seng Fat elected fellow of the Institute of Measurement and Control

Dr Wong Seng Fat, an assistant professor from the Department of Electromechanical Engineering, Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), University of Macau (UM), has been elected fellow of the Institute of Measurement and Control, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to academic and engineering fields. Dr Wong is the first from Macao to be elected fellow of the institute. Founded in 1944 and incorporated by the Royal Charter in 1975, the Institute of Measurement and Control is committed to promoting the professional excellence and standing of engineers and technologists at all levels in automation, instrumentation, control and related industries. Its aims are to advance the science and practice of measurement and control technologies and their various applications, to foster the exchange of views and the communication of knowledge and ideas in these activities, and to promote the professional development and qualify its members. The institute is therefore both a learned society and a professional qualifying body occupying a niche in the automation-focused industries. Dr Wong is the FST’s coordinator for student exchange programmes, the FST and the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences’s coordinator for the Honours College, and the Department of Electromechanical Engineering’s coordinator for the faculty’s internship programme. He is the council president of the Macau Institution of Engineers, council president of Macau Mechanical and Electromechanical Engineer Society, fellow of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers, senior member of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, deputy council president of the Macao Innovation & Invention Association, member of the International Forum for Clean Energy (Macao), member of the Traffic Consultation Committee of the Macao SAR government, committee member of the Foundation of Environmental Protection and Energy Conservation of the Macao SAR government, committee member of Standardising System of Consulting Bid for Public Construction, Macao SAR government, and committee member of Professional Qualification in the Field of Electrical Equipment and Elevator, Macao SAR government.
