Latest Monitoring of the Ambient Gamma Radiation in Macao(26 April 2011, 17:00)

According to the monitoring data of Gamma Radiation recorded for the past 24 hours (25th April 16:01 till 26th April 16:00) by the Taipa Grande Station of the Macao Meteorological Bureau, the Gamma-ray absorbed dose rate per minute ranges between 0.1169 and 0.1291μGy/h (micro Gray / hour) which is far more below the warning level of 0.35μGy/h. The Macao Meteorological Bureau will continue to pay close attention to the radiation level in Macao. If any abnormalities being discovered, we will release related message to the public immediately and inform relevant government departments to adopt relative contingency measures.

MGTO to publish room rate on website during May 1 Labor Day holiday to boost transparency

Macau Government Tourist Office joins hand with the hotel industry to publish the rates of different hotel room categories reported by the trade during May 1 Labor Day holiday. The trade noted that if a guest reserves room through a hotel directly, the room rate will not be higher than the maximum rate submitted by the hotel. Representatives of MGTO held a meeting with local hoteliers association mid April to exchange views on the rates of different hotel room categories in Macau during May 1 Labor Day holiday. Hoteliers expressed that though seasonal fluctuation in room rates is common business practice, both parties agreed to enhance transparency to provide adequate information for consumer to make choices. MGTO will publish on its website today (April 25) the room rates from April 29 to May 8 submitted by the hotel industry as a reference for citizens and visitors. MGTO will notify Consumer Council and travel agents association of the room rates reported by the hotels. Guests can check hotel information and the published room rates at MGTO website www.macautourism.gov.mo or call Tourism Hotline 28333000 to file complaint. To facilitate investigation, complainant should state clearly information such as the date of check in, hotel name, room category and/or room number, booking voucher and receipt. MGTO expressed that the guests, who reserve rooms through any other channel, can take the room rates published on the website as reference. MGTO will also publish on its website the rates of different room categories of the guesthouses in Macau during May 1 Labor Day holiday. According to the current regulation, each hotel needs to inform MGTO of any revised room rates. The rate of a rented room should not be higher than the registered one and MGTO will conduct investigate upon receiving complaint.

Press Release of Consumer Council

Consumer Council conducted its latest 'Supermarket Price Survey Report' on 19th April. In comparison with last month's data, the recent survey showed a slight increase in the prices of cooking oil, tissue paper and dairy products, while the prices of rice remained stable. Out of all the products surveyed, most of the products from the category of canned foods showed a decrease in retail price. Among the 220 surveyed product samples, about half of them had an increase in their retail prices. 65 out of the all samples surveyed, most of them under the categories of canned foods and pesticide products, showed a drop in the retail price when compared to the data collected at last month's survey report. Prices of rice remained stable and a slight decrease in the price of Thai brand rice was recorded again in this month's survey. Consumer Council also conducted a specific price survey report on canned foods on 18th April. Prices of 10 canned food items were recorded in 22 retail outlets. A price difference of the same brand selling in different retail outlets amounted to 8 to over 50% were observed, of which “Porthos Sardines in Olive Oil” (125g) recorded a price difference of 50% in different retail spots. Consumers are therefore advised to check with the above mentioned reports for the most updated price. Consumer Council has optimized its website with regard to the online search of data on its 'Supermarket Price Survey Report' and specific price survey report. Consumers can choose the items of their interest and use our online search function to interactively compare the retail prices of their chosen items at various retail outlets. The latest 'Supermarket Price Survey Report' and specific price survey report on canned foods are now accessible on the Council's website (www.consumer.gov.mo). Reports are also available free of charge at the two offices of the Consumer Council, local markets, bookstores and libraries. MGTO organizes Mini Mart in India to promote tourism

To further capitalize on the Indian Outbound market, Macau Government Tourist Office organized Macau Mini Mart on April 20 in Mumbai and April 22 in New Delhi as a platform for India's leading travel agents and tour operators to network with their counterparts from Macau. Deputy Director of MGTO, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, led a delegation of Macau travel trade members to participate in the Mini Mart to enhance the knowledge of the Indian travel agents on Macau. 11 tourism industry representatives from Able Tours Limited, Banyan Tree Hotel, CAM - Macau International Airport Co. Ltd., Galaxy Macau, Grand Hyatt, Macau, Macau Tower Convention & Entertainment Center, Shun Tak- China Travel Ship Management Ltd. (TurboJet), Venetian® Macau-Resort-Hotel, Westin Resort, Macau, in conjunction with MGTO, introduced the latest tourism situation, leisure tourism, convention facilities and tourism products to the participants. Meanwhile, industry representatives of Macau engaged in one-on-one discussions with Indian counterparts. Deputy Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes said, “Since 2002, MGTO has stepped up its efforts to attract tourists from India, one of the fastest growing outbound travel markets in the world. Over the years, MGTO has been taking part in various travel fairs and tourism promotional activities. Last year, the Mini Mart held in India achieved fruitful results.” “To actively respond to the demand, we have organized this year's Mini Mart with even more Macau travel trade partners participating. We are glad to see representatives from new tourism products in Macau here to introduce their upcoming hotels and facilities. We will continue to dedicate efforts in developing this market, to increase Macau's exposure and attract more visitors from India,” she added.
