Macao reports 15 new Influenza A (H1N1) cases
Macao reported 15 new Influenza A (H1N1) cases today, taking the total number of such cases to 251. The 15 patients, nine males and six females, were aged between 2 and 53. Three of the patients were children from the same class of a crèche. Meanwhile, two patients had recovered and were discharged from hospital today. There were still 12 patients receiving treatment. Macao’s pandemic alert remained at Level VI, Blue, which indicated that there were no fatal cases and the spread of the virus was moderate.

Eleven more Influenza A (H1N1) cases
Macao reported 11 new Influenza A (H1N1) cases today, taking the total number of such cases to 236. The 11 patients, nine males and two females, were aged between 6 months and 40 years old. Meanwhile, seven patients had recovered and were discharged from hospital today. There were still 11 patients receiving treatment. Macao’s pandemic alert remained at Level VI, Blue, which indicated that there were no fatal cases and the spread of the virus was moderate.

Demographic Statistics for the Second Quarter of 2009
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the population of Macao was estimated at 544,200 as at 30 June 2009, down by 2,000 from end-March, attributable to the decrease of non-resident workers. In the second quarter of 2009, there were 1,039 live births, down by 7.0% quarter-to-quarter, with male babies accounting for 52.0% (540). The number of mortality cases totalled 386 and the major causes of death were Neoplasms and Diseases of the Circulatory System. Meanwhile, no fetal mortality case was recorded. The Health Bureau received 1,244 cases of Notifiable diseases in this quarter, consisting mainly of Hand, Foot and Mouth Diseases (528 cases), Varicella (chickenpox) (270 cases) and Influenza (149 cases); moreover, 33 cases of Influenza A/H1N1 (Swine flu) were recorded. In addition, 731 cases of marriage registration were recorded, up by 15.1% over the first quarter of 2009. In the second quarter of 2009, there were 615 immigrants moving from Mainland China to Macao with One-way Exit Permit, quarter-to-quarter increase slightly of 1.7% (10); meanwhile, 454 illegal immigrants were repatriated. Moreover, a total of 2,238 individuals were authorized to reside in Macao, up by 650 quarter-to-quarter. Number of non-resident workers totalled 83,616 at the end of the second quarter, a decrease of 4,173 over the end of the first quarter of 2009.

Company Statistics for the 2nd quarter of 2009
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 657 new companies were incorporated in the second quarter of 2009, down by 20.4% year-on-year, with the total value of registered capital declining by 17.9% to MOP81 million. Among these new companies, 248 (with registered capital of MOP20 million) were operating in Wholesale and Retail, 113 (MOP7 million) in Business Services and 92 (MOP7 million) in Construction. Furthermore, 480 new companies (73.1% of total) were incorporated with registered capital of MOP50,000 or less and the corresponding capital (MOP14 million) made up merely 16.8% of the total. Meanwhile, there were 9 new companies incorporated with registered capital of more than MOP1,000,000 and the corresponding value of capital accounted for 38.8% of the total (MOP32 million). In addition, over eighty percent of the new incorporations were limited companies. Capital of the new companies came mainly from Macao (MOP57 million), Mainland China (MOP10 million) and Hong Kong (MOP5 million). Capital from Guangdong Province (MOP4 million) took the lead among the Pan-Pearl River Delta provinces. Analysed by shareholders’ place of residence, 387 new companies were established solely by Macao shareholders, 91 were joint ventures between shareholders from Macao and other countries/regions; meanwhile, there were 179 new companies incorporated by shareholders from countries/regions other than Macao. In the second quarter of 2009, number of dissolution of companies was similar to that a year ago, at 102, with the total value of registered capital amounting to MOP1.93 billion. Among the companies in dissolution, registered capital of 17 Real Estate companies took up 98.5% of the total.

Macao reported eight new Influenza A (H1N1) cases today, bringing the total number of such cases to 225. The eight patients, five males and three females, were aged between 11 and 70. Meanwhile, three patients had recovered and were discharged from hospital today. There were still 17 patients receiving treatment. Macao reports 13 new Influenza A (H1N1) cases
Macao reported 13 new Influenza A (H1N1) cases today, including a pregnant woman who is believed to have contracted the virus when attending a wedding. The 13 patients, six males and seven female, were aged between two and 54. Three of the new cases had attended a wedding banquet on 29 August together with four other people who had been tested positive for the virus yesterday. The Health Bureau concluded that most cases from mid-June to mid-July contracted the virus from family members, while most of the new cases in the recent fortnight caught the virus at workplace or gathering. The Bureau urged people with flu symptoms to stay home and do not go to workplace, school or attend any gathering, while people with chronic disease should avoid crowded places. The total number of Influenza A (H1N1) cases in Macao amounted to 217 today. Meanwhile, two patients had recovered and were discharged from hospital today. There were still 19 patients receiving treatment. Macao’s pandemic alert remained at Level VI, Blue, which indicated that there were no fatal cases and the spread of the virus was moderate.

Macao reported 10 new Influenza A (H1N1) cases today, bringing the total number of such cases to 204. The 10 patients, three males and seven female, were aged between 11 and 23. Four of the patients attended a wedding on 29 July and developed flu symptoms the next day. Meanwhile, four other patients had recovered and were discharged from hospital today. There were still 22 patients receiving treatment. Macao’s pandemic alert remained at Level VI, Blue, which indicated that there were no fatal cases and the spread of the virus was moderate.

Tourism Crisis Management Office: No Macao Package Tour on Koh Samui Island
No Macao package tour group was on the Thai island of Koh Samui today when an airplane hit the control tower on landing on the island today, the Tourism Crisis Management Office announced. Sources from the tourism sector reported to the Office that there were no package tour groups from Macao visiting Koh Samui. A group of individual travellers from Macao had scheduled to visit the island today but had to wait at Bangkok for a plane to the island due to the accident. Macao reported two new local Influenza A (H1N1) cases and two imported ones today, bringing the total number of such cases to 185. The four patients, three males and one female, were aged between 9 and 63. Meanwhile, one patient had recovered and was discharged from hospital today. There were still 15 patients receiving treatment at hospital and 17 at home. To date Macao had reported 85 local and 100 imported cases. Macao’s pandemic alert remained at Level VI, Blue, which indicated that there were no fatal cases and the spread of the virus was moderate.
