1+4 “Tourism + MICE”: PATA Annual Summit 2024 officially opened today (May 16) in Macao helping to raise the city’s profile internationally

The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Annual Summit 2024 opening ceremony was held today (May 16) afternoon at the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau, gathering over 400 tourism industry delegates from around 30 countries and regions for a major conference under the theme “Reimagining Tourism”, helping to raise the profile of Macao as a “tourism + MICE” destination.


Macao Chinese Orchestra presents the family musical “Musical Magic Wand III: Strings Journey to the West” offering a magical journey through bowed strings

The family musical “Musical Magic Wand III: Strings Journey to the West” will be held on 8 June (Saturday), at 4pm, at the Broadway Theatre of Broadway Macau™. The show is organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, coordinated by the Macao Orchestra Company, Limited, with the support of the Bank of China Macau Branch. Galaxy Entertainment Group is the special art partner and venue sponsor. The show integrates elements of Chinese music and theatre, and combines bowed string instruments, one of the four instrumental categories of the Chinese orchestra, with an a cappella choir, inviting spectators to enjoy the charm of Chinese music in an intriguing and interactive way.



UM’s Portuguese Language Summer Programme now open for applications

The 38th Portuguese Language Summer Programme, organised by the Department of Portuguese of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Macau (UM), is now open for applications. The application deadline is 15 June, and interested individuals are welcome to apply. The summer programme is a key project in UM’s training of bilingual professionals.


Macao Orchestra’s Concert “Raining Petals–An Orchestral Re-imagining: Floral Princess Crossover Creation” integrates Chinese opera and orchestral music to promote Cantonese opera classic works

As part of the Macao Orchestra Concert Season, the concert “Raining Petals - An Orchestral Re-imagining: Floral Princess Crossover Creation” will be held on 8 and 9 June (Saturday and Sunday), at 8pm, at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium. The large-scale orchestral work is adapted from the renowned play “Floral Princess” composed by Tong Tik-sang, integrating Cantonese opera and Western music to present a cross-disciplinary interpretation. During the concert, re-edited excerpts from the film “Floral Princess” featuring Cantonese opera protagonists Yam Kim-fai and Pak Suet-sin, will be screened, presenting the timeless classic to the audience in a novel and creative way.


Cheong Weng Chon: Contribute to building Macao into an international metropolis

The Secretary for Administration and Justice, Mr Cheong Weng Chon, said that his department’s team would work diligently and responsibly, adhering to the requirements put forward by Director Xia Baolong, in order to make due contributions to polishing the “golden business card” of Macao as an international metropolis.


Seminars of International Museum Day, Macao 2024

Adhering to the theme for the 2024 International Museum Day, "Museums for Education and Research", the Communications Museum and the Maritime Museum jointly organized the "Seminars of International Museum Day, Macao 2024", exclusively for museum professionals, which took place on May 16th at the Communications Museum’s Auditorium. The speakers, Professor Wei Jun of Fudan University, Mr. Li Lisong, Director of Dongguan Museum, Dr. Mok Kar Wing, Chief Curator of Hong Kong Museum of Art, and Dr. Tang Man Leung, Director (Art) of Hong Kong Heritage Museum, were invited to talk on museum education and research and other related topics, as well as to interchange ideas with local colleagues, sharing the latest trends in the museum field as to enhance the vision and objectives for museum management.


The Communications Museum launches a temporary exhibition – Dragon Present in the Postage Stamps

This year of the Dragon is also known as the Year of Jiachen. Celebrating the 140th Anniversary of the Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT), the Communications Museum opened the temporary exhibition “Dragon Present in the Postage Stamps” on May16th. The opening and ribbon cutting ceremony of the new exhibition were presided by Ms. Lau Wai Meng, Director of CTT , Mr. Kong Iat Fu, Acting Director of Public Security Forces Affairs Bureau of Macau, Ms. Tong Iok Peng, Acting Director of Marine and Water Bureau, Mr. Hoi Io Meng, Deputy Director of Macao Government Tourism Office, Ms. Isabel Celeste Jorge, Administrator of the Administrative Council of Municipal Affairs Bureau, Mr. Wong Iong Keong, Senior Divisional Officer, representative of Fire Services Bureau, and Ms. Lou Ho Ian, Director of Macao Museum, representative of Cultural Affairs Bureau.


Xia Baolong encourages community associations to help enhance Macao’s ‘golden business card’

(Macao – 16 May 2024) The Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Ms Ao Ieong U, said the Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Director of the State Council’s Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, Mr Xia Baolong, fully acknowledged Macao's traditionalist patriotic sentiments, as well as its unique blend of Chinese and Western cultural characteristics.
