Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – April 2024
The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today (14 May) that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP229.2 billion (USD28.44 billion) at the end of April 2024. The reserves increased by 1.3% from the revised value of MOP226.2 billion (USD28.07 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-April 2024 represented 11 times the currency in circulation or 91.1% of pataca M2 at end-March 2024.

Rental statistics for the 1st quarter of 2024
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the average rent per square metre of usable area for residential units in Macao was MOP133 in the first quarter of 2024, up by 2.1% year-on-year. Among the districts with a relatively high number of lease declarations, the average rents for residential units in Barca (MOP120), NAPE & Aterros da Baía da Praia Grande (MOP136) and NATAP (MOP153) increased by 6.1%, 5.8% and 5.5% respectively, whereas the average rents for those in Areia Preta & Iao Hon (MOP121) and Barra & Manduco (MOP127) decreased by 2.5% and 1.5% respectively.

Be wary of calls faking the “Center for the Wealth Partaking Scheme”
The Judiciary Police (PJ) has received multiple reports from residents who have received calls from individuals impersonating the "Center for the Wealth Partaking Scheme." Using recordings in both Cantonese and Mandarin, the swindlers claimed that the recipient's eligibility for the "Wealth Partaking Scheme" had been revoked. The recipients were instructed to follow the prompts in the recording to obtain more information.

Due to the performances Experimental Kunqu Opera “The Chairs” and Impression of Iec Long, integrated in the 34th Macao Arts Festival, certain areas of the Mandarin’s House (including inner courtyard, front courtyard, Yuqing Mansion and Jishan Mansion) will be closed from 24 to 26 May, from 2pm to 6pm. Also, the Former Iec Long Firecracker Factory will close at 6pm on 28 May, and from 30 May to 2 June.
