External merchandise trade Statistics for December and the whole year of 2023
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that external merchandise trade totalled MOP154.78 billion in 2023, up by 0.9% from MOP153.33 billion in 2022. In 2023, total value of merchandise export dropped by 1.3% year-on-year to MOP13.34 billion, of which value of domestic exports (MOP1.55 billion) declined by 23.2% while value of re-exports (MOP11.79 billion) grew by 2.5%. Total value of merchandise import rose by 1.2% year-on-year to MOP141.44 billion. Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP128.11 billion in 2023, up by MOP1.82 billion from MOP126.29 billion in 2022.

【Widen international markets】MGTO launches special offer of free ferry and bus tickets from 1 February for international visitors in Hong Kong to extend journey to Macao
By different schemes and initiatives, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) strives to tap into various international visitor markets. Starting on 1 February, the Office will partner with the Hong Kong-Macao ferry and bus operators to launch the special offer of free ferry and direct bus tickets from Hong Kong to Macao for international visitors (from beyond the Greater China region) who arrive in Hong Kong. The offer aims to attract more international visitors to Macao for the colorful experience in “tourism +”, to expand the diversity of visitor source markets for more robust tourism and economic development.

Thematic Pack “Chinese Zodiac (Label Stamps)”
Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau will launch the thematic pack “Chinese Zodiac (Label Stamps)” on 1st February 2024. The cover of the pack uses a simple and elegant brown color to outline the General Post Office Building. While enjoying themselves in the building, the animals of the Chinese zodiac invite everyone to explore the colorful world of stamps.

Supplements for philatelic album of Macao 2023
Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau will release the “Supplements for Philatelic Album of Macao 2023” on 1st February 2024, and they will be available for sale at the Philatelic Shop of the General Post Office and the Communications Museum. The album pages are pre-printed with all the stamp images of 2023. Your collection of stamps and souvenir sheets of 2023 can be put into the pre-printed pages for convenient collection.

The Macao Orchestra presents the concert “Beethoven’s Emperor by Haochen Zhang” conducted by British master conductor Christopher Warren-Green
Co-organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Macao Orchestra Company, Limited and the six integrated resorts, the concert “Beethoven’s Emperor by Haochen Zhang”, will be held on 3 February (Saturday), at 8pm, at the University of Macau – University Hall (N2). British master conductor Christopher Warren-Green will conduct a number of classical pieces, and internationally renowned pianist Haochen Zhang will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat Major, Op. 73 “Emperor”, providing the audience a wonderful and unforgettable experience. Tickets are now on sale at the Macau Ticketing Network.

“Refreshing Fujian: Starting Point of the Maritime Silk Road – Showcase of Intangible Cultural Heritage” to be inaugurated on Friday
In order to strengthen the cultural exchanges and cooperation between Macao and Fujian, and enhance the public’s understanding of the country’s intangible cultural heritage, the “Refreshing Fujian: Starting Point of the Maritime Silk Road – Showcase of Intangible Cultural Heritage”, presented by the Macao Special Administrative Region Government and the People’s Government of Fujian Province, will be held from 2 February to 5 May in Macao. The Showcase is not only a part of the signature event “Happy Chinese New Year” of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, but also a part of the series activities of “Let’s Celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Dragon” organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau. The opening ceremony of the Showcase will be held at 6:30pm on 2 February at the Mount Fortress Garden, during which puppet shows and martial arts performances featuring Fujian characteristics will be staged, allowing the public to learn about the traditional cultural essence of Fujian Province. All are welcome to participate.
