Call for proposals by local parade groups for the “2024 Macao International Parade” Applications open from 16 January

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the “2024 Macao International Parade”, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland, will be held on 24 March 2024 (Sunday). IC is now inviting all registered local associations, schools, institutes and organisations to submit proposals from 16 January to 4 February. All interested local groups are welcome to participate.



[Connecting with Global MICE Market] IPIM Leads Macao MICE Delegation to Attend CEFCO 2024

The 19th China Expo Forum for International Co-operation (CEFCO 2024) was held from 10 to 12 January in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province. The Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) organised a delegation comprising 24 representatives from the Macao MICE industry to attend the event in Nanchang, aiming to interact with convention and exhibition managers, professional event organisers and international celebrities in the MICE industry from all over the world.


Government, Macau Horse Race Company Ltd sign termination of horse-racing concession

The Secretary for Economy and Finance, Mr Lei Wai Nong, signed today, on behalf of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Government, a document with Macau Horse Race Company Ltd regarding termination of the latter’s horse-racing concession effective from 1 April 2024.



Interest Income of the Year Distributed to Non-Mandatory Central Provident Fund System’s Government-Managed Sub-Accounts, Annual Interest Rate is About 4.39%

The Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) announced that the interest income for the year 2023 had been credited to the non-mandatory central provident fund system’s government-managed sub-accounts, with an annual interest rate of about 4.39%. To check the balance of the relevant sub-account, residents may either log in to the non-mandatory central provident fund information platform or the “Macao One Account” mobile app or online platform, using the “Macao One Account”. They can also check the balance through a self-service machine.


Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – December 2023

The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today (15 January) that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP223.6 billion (USD27.77 billion) at the end of December 2023. The reserves increased by 1.3% from the revised value of MOP220.6 billion (USD27.44 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-December 2023 represented 11 times the currency in circulation or 91.0% of pataca M2 at end-November 2023.


2024 MGM Macao International Regatta successfully concluded

The 2024 MGM Macao International Regatta, organized by the Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, MGM and the Ursa Major Sailing Management, co-organized by theMarine and Water Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and the Macau Sailing Association, and supported by the Zhuhai Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports Bureau, officially concluded today. After four days of thrilling sailing races, Canados Sailing Team from Germany, Muwu BBQ from Mainland China and Team Yacht Racing of Thailand were crowned overall champions in the Macao Cup International Regatta (Beneteau First 40.7 unified design group), the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Cup Regatta (IRC group) and the International Catamaran Invitational (Hobie 16 unified design group), respectively.


UM holds Open Day in Macao and Hengqin, showcasing its vision and development direction

The University of Macau (UM) held its open day event today (14 January). Titled ‘UM Open Day 2024: Connecting Macao and Hengqin’, this year’s Open Day was held in both Macao and Hengqin for the first time, showcasing the latest achievements of the university and the Zhuhai UM Science & Technology Research Institute (ZUMRI) in teaching and research, talent cultivation, and industry-academia collaboration. The event attracted many students, parents, members of the public and visitors, who came to learn about the admission information, education model, and campus culture of the university. Yonghua Song, rector of UM, said that the Open Day is a manifestation of UM’s vision and development direction, and the university plans to establish a new campus in Hengqin.


Fierce competition on the third day of the 2024 MGM Macao International Regatta

The penultimate day of the 2024 MGM Macao International Regatta saw teams fighting for leading positions in their respective championships. Strong wind conditions made for some exciting racing. Canados Sailing Team from Germany climbed to pole position in the standings of the Macao Cup International Regatta (Beneteau First 40.7 unified design group), following the retirement of overnight leaders ExeQute Racing from South Africa. Meanwhile, Muwu BBQ and Team Yacht Racing of Thailand maintained their overall lead in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Cup Regatta (IRC group) and the International Catamaran Invitational (Hobie 16 unified design group), respectively. All teams will continue to show their best tomorrow to fight for the overall champions title.
