UM, National Judges College jointly offer training programme for Chinese senior judges

In response to the country’s need to cultivate foreign-related legal talent, the University of Macau (UM) and the National Judges College jointly offer a training programme for Chinese senior judges. The opening ceremony for this year’s programme was held today (22 September).


CE meets with UNWTO’s Secretary-General to strengthen tourism cooperation

The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, met with the Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Mr Zurab Pololikashvili. They discussed enhancing the quality of Macao’s tourism industry and upgrading it, and expansion of its sources of international tourists. They also exchanged opinions on topics such as training of professional talent.


Cultural Affairs Bureau organises Macao Craft Market in the Greater Bay Area Macao’s cultural and creative brands displayed in Foshan

Co-organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) of the Macao SAR Government and Foshan Lingnan Tiandi, the “Macao Craft Market @ Foshan Lingnan Tiandi” is held from 22 to 24 September at Foshan Lingnan Tiandi, featuring 50 cultural and creative brands from Macao and Mainland China as well as a number of music performances. All are welcome to participate.



Consumer price index (CPI) for August 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Composite CPI for August 2023 (104.80) grew by 0.99% year-on-year. The increment was attributed to higher charges for eating out and package tours, rising tuition fees, as well as increases in hotel room rates and clothing prices; yet, the rise was partially offset by falling rentals for dwellings and lower airfares. Among the various sections of goods and services, the price indices of Education, Recreation & Culture, Clothing & Footwear and Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages went up by 9.98%, 7.75%, 4.66% and 2.50% year-on-year respectively, whereas the indices of Transport and Housing & Fuels dropped by 2.42% and 1.66% respectively. The CPI-A (104.25) and CPI-B (105.51) recorded respective growth of 0.76% and 1.29% year-on-year.


Results of travel agencies survey 2022

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that there were 176 travel agencies operating in 2022, a decrease of 8 year-on-year. Number of persons engaged dropped by 588 year-on-year to 2,204. Receipts and expenditure of the industry amounted to MOP1.60 billion and MOP1.69 billion respectively, down by 19.8% and 20.3% year-on-year.


Beware of “randomly sent” messages

The Judiciary Police (PJ) has recently discovered that swindlers randomly send SMS or WhatsApp messages to members of the public. They initiate the conversation with a familiar tone, then say they have got the wrong number and added the user by mistake. Should the victim respond to the messages, they will start chatting with the victim and win the victim’s trust. Next, they will encourage the victim to download a fake investment app, claiming they can earn lucrative profits through investing in the A-share market or cryptocurrencies. They will also pull the victim into WhatsApp groups to obtain "investment tips" and persuade them to join a bogus investment plan.


CCAC receives visiting delegation from Supreme People’s Court

The Commissioner Against Corruption, Chan Tsz King, met with the President of the Supreme People’s Court, Zhang Jun, who is paying a visit to Macao, where they discussed and exchanged views on the work of integrity building.



IAM organises exchange meeting for souvenirs and specialty food sector to support the city’s development as a city of gastronomy

Food souvenirs are one of the important business cards of Macao for foreign visitors to know the city as a “City of Gastronomy”. In order to ensure food safety and product quality, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) organised the “Exchange Meeting on Food Safety for Macao Souvenirs and Specialty Food Sector” on 22 September, inviting representatives from relevant businesses, industry associations, and chambers of commerce of various districts, etc. During the meeting, food safety personnel highlighted the status of food souvenirs monitoring in Macao, and explained the application process of the “Agreement on Cooperation in Safety Control of Food Products Manufactured in Macao for Exportation to Mainland China”, in order to help the sector better safeguard food safety at all stages, open up the Mainland market, and contribute to Macao’s development as a “Creative City of Gastronomy”. Moreover, in response to the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays, IAM has strengthened publicity and inspections at food establishments, takeaway shops and food retail establishments to ensure food safety and hygiene during the Golden Week.
