Results of survey on participation of residents in cultural activities for the 2nd quarter of 2023

The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) released results of Survey on Participation of Residents in Cultural Activities for the second quarter of 2023. This Survey aims to collect information on participation of individuals aged 16 and above in cultural activities in the six months prior to the date of interview. Cultural activities include going to the cinema, going to a library, visiting a museum or World Heritage site, and attending a performance or art exhibition. The data for this year were compared with those in the second quarter of 2021, as the Survey was suspended in the second quarter of 2022 due to the pandemic of novel coronavirus pneumonia.



The Centre for Continuing Education of Macao Polytechnic University will launch a number of professional training courses in the fourth quarter of 2023

In order to seize development opportunities, continuous self enhancement to improve competitiveness has become essential, and in recent years Macao citizens have actively enrolled in training courses to improve their overall quality and continuous professional development. There is especially strong demand for practice-oriented training such as financial management, convention and exhibition, technology application, social work practice, and public administration practice. In order to respond to needs in a timely manner, the Centre for Continuing Education of Macao Polytechnic University will launch nine different series with more than 20 professional certificate training courses in the fourth quarter of 2023, covering financial management, exhibitions, social care, business applications, technology applications, culture and creativity, language and communication, social work professional practice and public administration practice. The courses are now accepting online registration.


Secretary-General of the UNWTO visited Macao Institute for Tourism Studies and attended the 15th IFTM-UNWTO training programme closing ceremony

On September 20, Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), led a delegation to the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) to attend the closing ceremony of the 15th IFTM-UNWTO training programme. The delegation, which included UNWTO Executive Director Natalia Bayona and Regional Department for Asia and the Pacific Director Harry Hwang, expressed their recognition and congratulations on the successful organisation of the training programme. IFTM President Dr. Fanny Vong, Director of School of Hospitality Management Dr. Clara Lei and Acting Director of the Global Centre for Tourism Education and Training Judy Wong welcomed the delegation.



Commemorative postmark cancellation service of “Celebration of the 74th Anniversary of the Establishment of the People’s Republic of China”

To celebrate the 74th Anniversary of the Establishment of the People’s Republic of China, Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau announces that a Temporary Post Counter will be set up at the Philatelic Shop of General Post Office, from 09:00 to 14:00 on 1st October 2023 to provide the commemorative postmark cancellation service for the “Celebration of the 74th Anniversary of the Establishment of the People’s Republic of China”.



17th International Symposium on Persistent Toxic Substances & Health held at UM

The 17th International Symposium on Persistent Toxic Substances & Health is being held at the University of Macau (UM) from today (18 September) to 22 September. The symposium focuses on hot issues and emerging trends in international environmental chemistry and ecotoxicology. It aims to provide a platform for in-depth exchanges between global experts and researchers in the field of persistent toxic substances, and to promote international academic exchanges and cooperation in related fields.


Visitor arrivals for August 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals totalled 3,221,691 in August 2023, representing an upsurge of 872.2% year-on-year and a rise of 16.7% month-on-month. Same-day visitors (1,653,866) and overnight visitors (1,567,825) soared by 975.6% and 782.6% year-on-year respectively. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of visitors dropped by 1.6 days year-on-year to 1.2 days; the duration for overnight visitors (2.2 days) decreased by 3.2 days, while that for same-day visitors (0.3 day) went up by 0.1 day.
