Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Tourist Price Index (TPI) for the second quarter of 2024 went up by 2.72% year-on-year to 140.96. The rise stemmed from dearer prices of clothing and jewellery, as well as rising charges for restaurant services; however, falling hotel room rates offset part of the increase. Among the various sections of goods and services, price indices of Clothing & Footwear, Miscellaneous Goods and Restaurant Services grew by 7.42%, 7.10% and 6.79% year-on-year respectively, while the indices of Entertainment & Cultural Activities and Accommodation dropped by 14.92% and 4.39%.

The book Exploring Computational Pharmaceutics – AI and Modeling in Pharma 4.0, edited by Ouyang Defang, associate professor at the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences, the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine, and the Department of Public Health and Medicinal Administration of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Macau (UM), has been published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The book is the second edition of Computational Pharmaceutics. Bringing together leading pharmaceutical experts from academia, industry, and regulatory agencies, the book provides an overview of the changes and advances made in computational pharmaceutics over the past decade and explores the potential and future outlook of the Pharma 4.0 era.

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the 1^st Macao International Children’s Arts Festival has been well received by the public since its launch of various programmes, drawing the active participation of the public. Amongst programmes, the new programme Art Camps has been highly sought after, and the tickets for all sessions were sold out since its launch. Considering the public’s overwhelming response, three additional sessions will be offered for the programmes “Art Camps Mysterious Art Playground - Children’s Creative Camp” and “Fantastic Creative Door - Family Art Camp” in August, respectively. Moreover, the exhibition “Fantastic Art World from Centre Pompidou”, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, MGM and the Centre Pompidou from France, will be held from 23 July to 27 October. Tickets for the Art Camps and the “Fantastic Art World from Centre Pompidou – Exhibition and Workshops at the Main Venue” will be on sale simultaneously through the Macau Ticketing Network outlets, telephone and online booking from 10am on 13 July, while tickets for the “Fantastic Art World from Centre Pompidou – Exhibition at the Satellite Venue” will be on sale through the GoGoGoat online booking from 10am on 22 July.

In order to broaden the musical horizons of local young music students, the “Music Camp” integrated in the 1^st Macao International Children’s Arts Festival, jointly organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau and Wynn Resorts (Macau), S.A., and produced by the Macao Orchestra Company, Limited, will be held from 16 to 21 August. In order to facilitate the applications by the public, the registration deadline was extended to 6pm on 19 July (local time). Successful applicants will receive an email notification on or before 1 August.

The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) has arranged for the removal of two trees at risk of collapse to be carried out in July. The two trees include one Chinese Hackberry tree in Praça de Luís de Camões and one Batavia Cinnamon tree in Avenida de Sidónio Pais. IAM advises the public to follow the on-site instructions and refrain from entering the enclosed area during the work period to avoid accidents.

The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) continues to keep its close cooperation with Guangzhou Zoo, and will send the white-cheeked gibbon kept in Seac Pai Van Park to Guangzhou zoo this month, as well as participating in the conservation of national rare wildlife and promoting the protection, reproduction and sustainable development of these species. The white-cheeked gibbon is currently undergoing quarantine, and the keepers are closely observing its conditions.

According to statistics released today (11 July) by the Monetary Authority of Macao, new approvals of residential mortgage loans (RMLs) fell whereas those of commercial real estate loans (CRELs) rose month-on-month in May 2024. With regard to the outstanding balances, both RMLs and CRELs witnessed declines on a monthly basis.

The ‘Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th Anniversary of the Macao SAR: University Women’s Volleyball Invitational Tournament’, organised by the University of Macau (UM), will be held from 17 July (Wednesday) to 18 July (Thursday) at UM. The tournament will feature women’s volleyball teams from UM, Hong Kong Baptist University, Lanzhou University, and the Pedagogical University of Maputo in Mozambique. All are welcome to watch the game. The tournament is sponsored by the Banco Nacional Ultramarino (BNU).
