The Portuguese Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (APAVT, from its Portuguese acronym) announced that Macao will be the “APAVT Preferred International Destination” in the year of 2024, with the designation and related initiatives set to increase the destination’s visibility among the Portuguese travel trade and travelers, thus helping expand the city’s international visitor source markets.

The first Beijing-Macao Cooperation Conference was held on 1 December at the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Commercial and Trade Service Platform Complex. Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) hosted the “Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme” (“QTSAS” or the “Scheme”) Award Ceremony today (1 December) to commend award-winning catering businesses and travel agencies of the year, encouraging industry operators to provide quality tourism services. There are 256 catering businesses and 40 travel agencies awarded in the Scheme of this year.

The University of Macau held a Doctor honoris cause Lecture today (1 December). Prof William Shiyuan Wang, honorary doctor of UM, gave a talk titled ‘SAPIENS—a Journey of 6 Million Years’. Referencing findings from fields such as anthropology, archaeology, genetics, and cognitive neuroscience, Prof Wang examined the six-million-year evolution of Homo sapiens and engaged in in-depth discussions on cutting-edge topics such as the development of artificial intelligence (AI). The event attracted many UM faculty and students, as well as people from different sectors of the community.
