Macao Creative Pavilion participates in Cross-Strait (Xiamen) Cultural Industries Fair

The 14th Cross-Strait (Xiamen) Cultural Industries Fair (CCCIF) will be held from 4 to 7 August 2023. The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) of the Macao SAR Government has arranged for Macao’s cultural and creative entities to participate in the CCCIF. Through the establishment of the “Macao Creative Pavilion”, the IC endeavours to promote the signature cultural and creative products and services of Macao and facilitate exchanges in the sector between Fujian and Macao.



Government holding public consultation on plan for appropriate economic diversification

The Government is holding a public consultation, running from today until 2 September inclusive, on its “Development Plan for Appropriate Economic Diversification of the Macao Special Administrative Region (2024-2028)”.


Company statistics for the 2nd quarter of 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 1,263 new companies were incorporated in the second quarter of 2023, an increase of 339 year-on-year. Number of new companies operating in Wholesale & Retail Trade and Business Services totalled 455 and 295 respectively. Total value of registered capital of the new companies rose by 16.9% year-on-year to MOP376 million. Meanwhile, companies in dissolution totalled 222 in the second quarter, and the value of registered capital of these companies amounted to MOP55 million.


Monetary and financial statistics – June 2023

According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, broad money supply rebounded in June. Meanwhile, both resident deposits and loans increased from a month earlier.


MPU-Bell English Centre Hosts Popular English Teacher Training Courses for Shanghai Teachers

To promote exchanges and collaboration with mainland higher education institutions and to support the Macao SAR government's vision of 'Education + Tourism' for diversified economic development, the MPU-Bell English Centre and Shanghai Normal University joined forces to organise two summer English teacher training courses from July 16th to August 3rd These professional development courses welcomed English teachers from numerous colleges and universities in Shanghai to participate. Throughout the courses, participating teachers received high-quality English teaching training and development while experiencing Macao's rich cultural characteristics. The courses garnered high praise from the attendees and yielded fruitful results.


UM professor’s book published by Cambridge University Press

Joshua Ehrlich, assistant professor in the Department of History of the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Arts and Humanities, recently had his book, The East India Company and the Politics of Knowledge, published by Cambridge University Press. The book is the product of a decade of research in over 30 archives spanning three continents. It shows how the British East India Company used knowledge to consolidate its commercial and political power, thus constituting the major new study of the company.



MPU Published Conference Proceedings of the Fourteenth Higher Education International Conference

Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) has published the “Proceedings of the Fourteenth Higher Education International Conference on Online Teaching and Sustainable Quality Assurance: Challenges and Perspectives”. The proceedings contain selected papers from the online conference of the same name co-organised by MPU and the Asia-Pacific Quality Network (APQN) in November 2022. The conference discussed the current situation and the future of quality assurance in higher education, innovation and influence in educational evaluation, the mechanism and effectiveness of online teaching in various disciplines, and digitisation of quality assurance, and participants benefited from the exchanges at this conference. The publication of the proceedings provides reference measures and research examples for the present and future of online modes of teaching and learning in higher education, as well as quality assurance for sustainable development.
