“Art Macao” chief curator to host three lectures on thoughts behind curation process and updates on the international art scene

“Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2023” (hereinafter referred to as “Art Macao 2023”), the mega international cultural and artistic event of the city, will be inaugurated with an opening ceremony held at the Macao Museum of Art on 28 July (Friday). This year, the event has once again invited renowned artist Qiu Zhijie, the Vice President of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, to serve as the chief curator. He will host three lectures at the Auditorium on the 1st floor of the Macao Museum of Art, introducing to the participants the thoughts behind the curation process and the updates on the international art scene.

The Tourism Development Committee (CDT, on its Portuguese acronym) convened the first Plenary Meeting of 2023 on 19 July, presided over by Secretary for Economy and Finance and Committee Chairperson, Lei Wai Nong.


Foster tourism revival — Implementation rate of Macao Tourism Industry Development Master Plan reaches 86% in 2022

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) publicized the progress of implementation of the Macao Tourism Industry Development Master Plan (referred to as the “Master Plan”) in 2022. Under the concerted efforts of various public entities and the private sector, 76 out of 77 action plans have commenced by stage with relevant tasks in progress. Target goals are achieved for 66 action plans. The implementation rate is 86%, up by 4 percentage points from 2021.


IPIM Holds Two Sharing Sessions to Expand Mainland Market for Portuguese-Speaking Countries Products on E-Commerce Platform

The Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) held the first “RED Application Skills Sharing Session for SMEs of China and PSCs” at the China-PSCs Commercial and Trade Service Platform Complex on 20 July, and launched its live stream concurrently, bringing together more than 1,000 enterprise representatives to discuss on how to tap into the mainland market with livestream selling and through social media platforms.

The Online Book Shop launched by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) launches a special summer promotion until 31 July. Readers may enjoy 20% discount on all books on the website, as well as 50% and 10% discount on back issues and recent issues of Review of Culture, respectively. In addition, readers may receive a set of Reminiscence of Old Taipa postcards for any book purchase on the Online Book Shop (by each transaction) during the abovementioned period. The gifts are available while stocks last.


Macao Polytechnic University Opens Registration for IELTS Test in the Second Half of 2023

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is the world's leading international English proficiency certification exam, recognized by over 11,000 institutions in more than 140 countries worldwide. With over 3 million test-takers each year, IELTS serves as a language requirement standard for education, immigration, and employment within English-speaking countries and regions. In recent years, IELTS has introduced a computer-based testing mode. The Bell Centre of English of the Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) will conduct these IELTS tests starting from 20 July 2023, welcoming applicants from diverse backgrounds to register. In line with the policies of the Macao government, MPU continues to expand its national and international-level examination and certification services and offers various continuing education courses. This initiative aims to establish Macao as a prominent examination and certification hub, contributing to the region’s moderate diversification and economic growth.


Nobel laureate Shuji Nakamura to give talk at UM

The University of Macau (UM) will hold an honoris causa Lecture on Wednesday 2 August. Prof Shuji Nakamura, who received a Doctor of Science honoris causa degree from UM in 2020 and the 2014 Nobel Prize in Physics, will be the keynote speaker. He will give a talk titled ‘Background Story and Development of High Efficiency Blue InGaN LEDs and Laser Diodes’. All are welcome.


IFTM Wine Appreciation Club Members Learn Douro Valley and Organic Wines from World-renowned Masters

Members of the IFTM Wine Appreciation Club, an affiliate of the IFTM Student Union, were invited by Wynn Food & Beverage Academy to participate in the "Douro Valley Treasure: A Wine Adventure in Portugal" wine masterclasses in Wynn Macau from June 1 to 3, 2023. The masterclasses were given by five world-renowned Portuguese wine producers from the Douro Boys – the most influential and revolutionary group of top Douro Valley wineries in Portugal.


First quarterly lucky draw results of HIES 2023 announced

The first quarterly data collection for the one-year Household Income and Expenditure Survey 2023 (HIES 2023) has concluded. Data were collected from a total of 1,557 residential units, with 694 units (44.6%) completing the online questionnaire.
