13th Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo commences to unveil business opportunities Numbers of exhibitors and booths reach new heights
The 13th Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo (referred to as the “Expo” or “MITE”) grandly opened today (25 April). Under the theme of “Explore MITE, Experience the World”, MITE presents six major highlights and brings together 755 tourism-related businesses and governmental entities from 70 countries and regions. The numbers of countries and regions involved, exhibitors and booths reach an all-time-high this year. The number of international exhibitor booths increases by 50%. MITE functions as an impactful platform that creates a world of businesses opportunities in international tourism and fosters regional and international tourism cooperation and exchange, contributing to forging a platform for Macao’s high-level opening up to the world.

IAM to remove a withered tree in Avenida do Conselheiro Ferreira de Almeida
An ancientcamphor tree (no. 539) located in Avenida do Conselheiro Ferreira de Almeida was diagnosed with infection of the brown root rot disease years ago. The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) joined hands with the experts from the Guangzhou Institute of Forestry and Landscape Architecture to continuously carry out inspections and monitoring of the ancient tree, and the care and treatment measures, such as pest prevention and control, application of fertilisation and medication, and trimming for height control, were adopted according to the experts’ advice. However, there was no improvement in the growth conditions of the ancient tree and it has withered. To ensure public safety, the tree will be removed on 26 April and restoration of the pavement surface will be arranged simultaneously. During the works period, the public are advised to follow the on-site instructions and refrain from entering the enclosed area to avoid accidents.

IAM to renovate fountain and surrounding facilities in Largo da Sé in original style and materials
The fountain and flowerbeds located in Largo da Sé and the surrounding areas were established in 2004, being put into use for over 20 years. Despite multiple repairs during the period, the issue of ageing and deterioration of the facilities was not improved. Starting from 7 May, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) will carry out renovation of the pseudo-classical fountain and the surrounding facilities in Largo da Sé in zones and in phases, according to the original appearance, style and materials, to provide the public and visitors with a beautiful and neat leisure space. IAM strives to complete the whole construction works in early fourth quarter this year.

Consumer price index (CPI) for March 2025
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Composite CPI for March 2025 rose by 0.04% year-on-year, but dropped by 0.08% month-on-month. For the 12 months ended March this year, the average Composite CPI grew by 0.48% from the previous period (April 2023 – March 2024).

IAM clears and maintains sewers continuously before typhoon and rainy season to reduce risk of flooding
As the typhoon and rainy season is approaching, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) clears and maintains sewers continuously in various districts with a focus on stepping up inspections in areas susceptible to floods. IAM also continues to carry out inspections of food and beverage establishments and construction sites jointly with relevant departments in order to check the interception and filtration facilities and initiate prosecutions against violations of regulations. In times of adverse weather, IAM will initiate rainstorm emergency response mechanism and adopt a series of contingency measures to accelerate drainage of rainwater. IAM appeals to the society to jointly protect the drainage networks to safeguard the normal operation of the drains.

Tap Siac Craft Market in Spring inaugurated
Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the Tap Siac Craft Market in Spring is held from today to 27 April and from 1 to 4 May at Tap Siac Square, showcasing and selling cultural and creative products from Macao and Asian regions. A number of music performances and creative handicraft workshops are also held. All are welcome to participate.

Times Higher Education Asia Universities Summit held in Macao, reveals local institutions' steady rise in university rankings
Supported by the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) and hosted by Times Higher Education (THE) in partnership with the Macau University of Science and Technology, the Times Higher Education Asia Universities Summit was held for the first time in Macao from 22 to 24 April, during which time awards were presented at the THE Awards Asia 2025 and the THE Asia University Rankings 2025 was announced. Higher education institutions in Macao saw a steady rise in rankings among Asian universities.
