UM kicks off One Million Dollar Macao Regional Entrepreneurship Competition
This year, the University of Macau (UM) continues to hold the One Million Dollar Macao Regional Entrepreneurship Competition, with the trade show and the elevator pitch contest already being held successfully. The shortlisted teams will compete in the Macao regional final on 27 April. The top three teams that emerge from the regional final will represent Macao in the national final, where they will compete with other regional finalists for the big prize of RMB 1 million as venture capital as well as financing opportunities.

MPU Seniors Academy Organizes for Students to Visit “Long-lasting Charm of Cantonese Opera” Cantonese Opera Art Exhibition
In order to deepen students’ understanding of the development of Cantonese opera and its relationship with Macao, Macao Polytechnic University Seniors Academy (ACS) organized for students to visit the “Long-lasting Charm of Cantonese Opera” Cantonese Opera Art Exhibition in the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM). ACS hoped to let students learn more about the culture and art of Cantonese opera through the treasurable photos, models and interactive multimedia installations at the exhibition.

IAM finds no abnormalities in re-tests on cold-chain meat products imported from Vietnam and Brazil
The General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China announced on April 20 that samples of the packaging of frozen aquatic products imported from aquatic product manufacturers in Vietnam with registration numbers DL 183, DL 717, DL 155 and DL 714 tested positive in novel coronavirus nucleic acid tests; and the Centre for Food Safety of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department of Hong Kong announced on April 19 that the outer packaging sample of a batch of frozen chicken drumsticks imported from Brazil tested positive for the novel coronavirus. In view of this, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) has immediately launched the contingency plan and adopted measures such as source tracing, investigation and re-tests of the products of the involved manufacturers. Local businesses have been requested to immediately seal the products sourced from the involved manufacturers. Moreover, samples have been collected again for re-tests and no abnormalities have been found. Meanwhile, IAM has immediately suspended the import applications of the products of the involved manufacturers.

UM holds video conference as preparation for First International Forum on Chinese and Portuguese Languages
The University of Macau (UM) recently held a video conference to discuss the preparation work for the First International Forum on Chinese and Portuguese Languages. The event attracted over 30 Portuguese and Chinese language teachers and librarians from more than ten universities in Portuguese-speaking countries and mainland China, who provided various suggestions for the upcoming forum.

Environmental statistics 2021
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that in 2021, the annual mean air temperature in Macao was relatively high, at 23.5ºC, up by 0.2ºC year-on-year and 0.7ºC above the climatological normal for 1991-2020. The highest temperature of the year was 35.8ºC in July, a year-on-year increase of 0.3ºC; the lowest temperature was 6.1ºC in January, a fall of 0.6ºC. Meanwhile, total precipitation increased by 493.0mm year-on-year to 2,206.2mm.

Business climate survey on restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade for February 2022
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that receipts of the interviewed restaurants & similar establishments dropped by 5.3% year-on-year in February 2022, with Western Restaurants, Chinese Restaurants and Japanese & Korean Restaurants recording respective decreases of 8.5%, 7.7% and 7.2%. Meanwhile, sales of the interviewed retailers rose by 29.7% year-on-year in February; Watches, Clocks & Jewellery Retailers (+49.3%), Department Stores (+41.1%) and Leather Goods Retailers (+37.8%) registered notable growth in sales while Motor Vehicle Retailers (-22.5%) posted a marked fall.

“Stay, Dine and see Macao” project launches drone-themed itinerary and other new tours for waterpark fun and encounter with miniature horses
In tandem with the Light up Macao Drone Gala 2022 to be held in early May, the “Stay, Dine and See Macao” project will unveil the drone-themed tour just for the occasion. Professional photographers will be assigned to share nighttime photography skills with tour members. The tour is designed to encourage residents’ interactive engagement with local events. 11 other new itineraries will be launched concurrently to offer a wider colorful choice for residents to experience close encounter with miniature horses and waterpark fun, among more highlights. Signups are welcome for the above tours starting from 3 p.m. today (20 April).

Cultural Affairs Bureau to hold a talk on online film distribution next Wednesday
To enhance the professional knowledge of Macao’s film and television practitioners in film distribution and promotion, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) will hold a talk on online film distribution on 27 April (Wednesday) at 3:30pm at the Macau Cultural & Creative Integrated Services Centre. Representatives of the film industry from the Mainland and Macao will be invited to discuss and exchange ideas on the current situation of online film distribution. Members of the public can also watch the live stream of the event simultaneously on the day of the event via the Macao Cultural and Creative Industries Website’s Facebook page “Macau CCI”.
