A team of undergraduate students from the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) recently won a gold medal at the International Genetic Engineered Machine (iGEM) competition for a research study on reducing acidity in the water environment. This year’s competition attracted 346 teams from 41 countries and regions, including teams from top universities such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University, Tsinghua University, and Peking University. This is the fourth consecutive year that UM has won an award in this international competition and also the third time that the university has won a gold medal.

The “2022 Guangdong & Macao Branded Products Fair” (2022GMBPF) will be held at Cotai Expo Hall D, The Venetian Macao, from 11 to 13 November. Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 972 new companies were incorporated in the third quarter of 2022, a decrease of 422 year-on-year. Number of new companies operating in Wholesale & Retail Trade (434) and Business Services (243) went down by 67 and 132 respectively. Meanwhile, total value of registered capital of the new companies surged by 139.8% year-on-year to MOP887 million, attributable to the incorporation of new companies with relatively large capital in Financial Activities and Business Services during the quarter. Companies in dissolution totalled 139 in the third quarter, and the value of registered capital of these companies amounted to MOP333 million.

According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, the total numbers of personal credit cards and debit cards issued by banks in Macao witnessed annual increases in the third quarter of 2022. The credit card and debit card turnover both decreased. On the other hand, the number and the value of transactions of local mobile payment tools both increased from a year ago.
