Flora Park to be closed this Sunday for replacement of main cables of Guia Hill Cable Car
The Guia Hill Cable Car operation has been suspended as the main cables have been worn out. Construction works to replace them are scheduled to begin this Sunday (May 29). The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) endeavours to launch the service again in July after the completion of the replacement works, adjustments and trials. To minimise the impact on the school next to Flora Park and ensure public safety, the replacement works of main cables will be carried out this Sunday and Flora Park has to be closed on that day. In addition, part of the area of the top station of the cable car located in Guia Hill Municipal Park also has to be enclosed. The public are reminded to pay attention to the above arrangements.

Gross domestic product for the 1st Quarter of 2022
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that Gross Domestic Product (GDP) contracted by 8.9% year-on-year in real terms in the first quarter of 2022, as a result of the weakening total demand. Exports of services decreased by 4.7% year-on-year, of which exports of gaming services dropped by 25.1% while exports of other tourism services increased by 1.9%; meanwhile, exports of goods expanded by 56.8%. Domestic demand shrank by 1.2% year-on-year on account of a decline in private consumption. Imports of goods and services rose by 29.0% and 2.8% respectively. The implicit deflator of GDP, which measures the overall changes in prices, went up by 0.3% year-on-year.

MPU Seniors Academy Holds a Health Seminar on “Dementia Awareness”
In order to enable the elderly to further understand dementia, enhance their awareness of the risk factors leading to dementia, and implement preventive measures as soon as possible, Macao Polytechnic University Seniors Academy recently held a health seminar for the elderly on "Dementia Awareness" and invited Wu Jian Wei, the Vice Chair, Board of Directors of the Macau Alzheimer’s Disease Association as the guest speaker of this seminar.

IAM steps up inspections on water dripping from air conditioners and urges residents to take the initiative for checks and repairs
As the temperature in Macao goes up, air conditioners are more frequently used these days. In order to prevent and improve the situation of water dripping from air conditioners, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) has stepped up inspections and enhanced publicity, urging the public to take the initiative to check the drainage systems of their air conditioners and remove stagnant water frequently, so as to avoid public environmental hygiene issues caused by water dripping.

Education Fund will soon be established. The DSEDJ is actively working on the transitioning work for the establishment of the Fund
In order to optimise the organizational structure, better manage and effectively utilise resources, according to Administrative Regulation No. 17/2022 "Education Fund", the Student Welfare Fund, Education Development Fund and Higher Education Fund will be merged into Education Fund on 1st June, 2022. The Education and Youth Development Bureau is now actively following up on the preparatory work for the merger of the three funds mentioned above to ensure a smooth transitioning of the administration, finance and various funding work of the three funds to the Education Fund.

Employment survey for February-April 2022
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that both the general unemployment rate (3.5%) and the unemployment rate of local residents (4.5%) for February-April 2022 held steady from the previous period (January-March 2022). Meanwhile, the underemployment rate rose by 0.2 percentage points to 3.0%.

MPU-Centre for Gaming and Tourism Studies holds Gaming Management and Leadership Lectures
The Centre for Gaming and Tourism Studies of the Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) recently arranged two gaming leadership and management lectures. The speakers were: Graeme Croft, Vice President of Table Games of MGM Cotai; Catherine Iu, Assistant Vice President of Community Relations, Public Relations, Galaxy Entertainment Group. These industry lecture series were well attended and received among students and alumni in the Master of Business Administration in Gaming Management programme.
