Entry submission deadline extended to end of June for Drone Gala Photography Contest and Formation Design Contest

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) held the Light up Macao Drone Gala 2022 in early May alongside an array of fringe activities. The deadline for entry submission, originally on 31 May, is now extended to 30 June for the “Macao for All Seasons” Photography Contest and “Drone Sky Art” Formation Design Contest. Residents and visitors are much welcome to submit entries for the above contests.


Research of PhD Student of Macao Polytechnic University Published in Top International Nursing Journal

The paper “Promoting enteral tube feeding safety and performance in preterm infants: A systematic review”, written by Lin Tian, a PhD student at the Macao Polytechnic University, in collaboration with experts from the United States and mainland China, proposes two clinical measures to effectively enhance the safety and efficacy of tube feeding for preterm infants, and was published in the International Journal of Nursing Studies, which is the top international academic journal in “Nursing”. With a Journal Impact Factor (JIF) of 5.837, the journal ranks first amongst more than 100 leading journals in the field of JCR nursing. It is also the top JCR Q1 journal in the category “Nursing” of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and is also indexed by world-renowned databases such as SSCI, SCIE and Scopus.

Sheraton Grand Macao joins the ranks of medical observation hotels for individuals from Hong Kong

The Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre expressed that in response to the rising demand of returnees from Hong Kong, Sheraton Grand Macao will be enlisted as one of the general optional medical observation hotels for individuals from the Hong Kong SAR starting from 2 June. The hotel will accept reservation starting from 12:00 noon tomorrow (31 May). To ensure accuracy of reservation information received, the hotel will not provide phone booking service. The quarantine price is set in accord with the hotel’s room rate standard. Liza Wang and the Macao Chinese Orchestra jointly present the closing concert of the 32nd Macao Arts Festival

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the closing concert “Liza Wang and The Macao Chinese Orchestra”, integrated in the 32nd Macao Arts Festival, will be held on 1 and 2 June, at The Venetian Theatre. The organiser held a press meeting today (30 May) in the Meeting Room of The Venetian Macao. Renowned artist Liza Wang and the Head of the Department of Performing Arts Development of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Cheang Kai Meng, met with the local media to share their thoughts on the concert and introduce the highlights of the programme.


UM Rector Yonghua Song receives ‘highest engineering award in China’— Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Prize

The recipients of the 14th Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Prize were announced today (30 May), the sixth National Science and Technology Practitioners’ Day, at the 16th General Meeting of Members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE). The prize is regarded as the ‘highest award in the field of engineering in China’. University of Macau (UM) Rector Yonghua Song made the list for his outstanding contributions to the field of power system operation and control. He is the only scholar of science and technology from Macao to receive the award this year.



Results of survey on manpower needs and wages for the 1st quarter 2022

The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) released results of the Survey on Manpower Needs and Wages for the first quarter of 2022. Survey coverage for this quarter comprises Manufacturing; Electricity, Gas & Water Supply; Hotels; Restaurants; Child-care and Elderly Care.


External merchandise trade statistics for April 2022

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise export amounted to MOP1.19 billion in April 2022, up by 13.0% year-on-year. Value of re-exports (MOP963 million) grew by 6.6%, of which re-exports of Garments and Diamond & diamond jewellery surged by 98.7% and 57.6% respectively while those of Machines, apparatus & parts declined by 51.3%. Value of domestic exports (MOP231 million) expanded by 50.7%, with that of Garments and Copper & articles thereof rising by 73.3% and 6.3% respectively. Meanwhile, total merchandise import went down by 3.1% year-on-year to MOP13.18 billion; imports of Gold jewellery and Watches dropped by 39.6% and 31.8% respectively, whereas imports of Food & beverages and Mobile phones expanded by 63.4% and 9.3% respectively. Merchandise trade deficit in April 2022 totalled MOP11.99 billion.


UM holds first symposium on frontier technology to promote interdisciplinary application

The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of the University of Macau (UM) recently held the first Symposium on Frontiers of Science and Technology. The event attracted more than 100 scholars and students from different fields to discuss issues related to cutting-edge technology and interdisciplinary applications. The symposium also exhibited many scientific research results of PhD students at UM.
