The Social Welfare Bureau (SWB) and the Health Bureau (SSM) will arrange several more rounds of nucleic acid tests in the coming days to monitor their health conditions and to safeguard personal and public health. At this stage, the elderly home is under closed-loop management and is closed to outside visitors. The IAS and the SSM will continue to provide support to ensure that the needs of the elderly and staff are met.

Capacity of Temporary Shelter Service Increased to 402 Beds
The “Vui Ieng Service Centre” of the Macao Caritas, located at Rua Leste da Ilha Verde, n.º 34, Edifício do Bairro da Ilha Verde, E1, provides temporary shelter service with up to 332 beds. There had been enough beds for the past few days until the night of October 5, when the occupancy rate increased significantly. With the coordination of the Education and Youth Development Bureau, the Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) negotiated with the Ilha Verde Secondary School of the Macao Chamber of Commerce to have the school auditorium as a temporary shelter to meet increasing needs. With the kind assistance from the school, the capacity of the temporary shelter service has been greatly enhanced to 402 beds. Those in need can register at “Vui Ieng Service Centre” of the Macao Caritas, where staff will make temporary accommodation arrangements. In the meantime, the IAS has been identifying other suitable venues, considering that the school auditorium is a borrowed venue. Some facilities that have completed basic renovation but are not yet in service will be put to use as temporary shelter to better cope with the pandemic.
