The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) released results of the Survey on Manpower Needs and Wages for the first quarter of 2022. Survey coverage for this quarter comprises Manufacturing; Electricity, Gas & Water Supply; Hotels; Restaurants; Child-care and Elderly Care.

External merchandise trade statistics for April 2022
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise export amounted to MOP1.19 billion in April 2022, up by 13.0% year-on-year. Value of re-exports (MOP963 million) grew by 6.6%, of which re-exports of Garments and Diamond & diamond jewellery surged by 98.7% and 57.6% respectively while those of Machines, apparatus & parts declined by 51.3%. Value of domestic exports (MOP231 million) expanded by 50.7%, with that of Garments and Copper & articles thereof rising by 73.3% and 6.3% respectively. Meanwhile, total merchandise import went down by 3.1% year-on-year to MOP13.18 billion; imports of Gold jewellery and Watches dropped by 39.6% and 31.8% respectively, whereas imports of Food & beverages and Mobile phones expanded by 63.4% and 9.3% respectively. Merchandise trade deficit in April 2022 totalled MOP11.99 billion.

UM holds first symposium on frontier technology to promote interdisciplinary application
The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of the University of Macau (UM) recently held the first Symposium on Frontiers of Science and Technology. The event attracted more than 100 scholars and students from different fields to discuss issues related to cutting-edge technology and interdisciplinary applications. The symposium also exhibited many scientific research results of PhD students at UM.

“Stay, Dine and See Macao” Project launches new Educational Student Tours to run between June and July
A new tour series of the “Stay, Dine and See Macao” project, the Educational Student Tours, will be unveiled for primary and secondary school students and special education students who are holders of Macao SAR Resident Identity Card in Macao. Every student can join one of the Educational Student Tours for free. Schools have started applying for tour participation at designated travel agencies or the “Stay, Dine and See Macao” control centre in recent days. The new tours are expected to run between 1 June and 31 July 2022.

MAK MAK shows up at Macao Grand Prix Museum in celebration of 1st anniversary Free admission on 1 June
To celebrate its first anniversary of inauguration as an expansion project, the Macao Grand Prix Museum (the “Museum”) under Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO)’s management will hold special activities and open free to the public on 1 June (the day after tomorrow). Macao International Museum Day Carnival 2022 opens infusing the power of museums into the community
In order to celebrate International Museum Day on 18 May, 20 museums in Macao co-organize the annual event of the museum sector, the “Macao International Museum Day Carnival 2022”. The opening ceremony was held today (29 May), at the Iao Hon Market Park, followed by the award ceremony of the podcast competition “One Museum, One Story: Expressing the Power of Museums through Sound”. The event featured a performance by the Macao tourism mascot “MAK MAK” and the Wing Chun martial arts performance by young martial artists. A wide range of intriguing activities were also held, including game booths, workshops, guided tours and a WeChat game with lucky draws, attracting the active participation of the residents.

UM graduates more than 1,800 students Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Ao Ieong U: UM’s academic standing has been further elevated
The University of Macau (UM) today (28 May) held the Congregation 2022. Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Ao Ieong U, representing the chief executive and UM chancellor at this year’s ceremony, said that the university has made great strides in many areas, such as nurturing outstanding patriotic talent for Macao, accelerating research innovation and industry-academia collaboration, as well as setting up joint training programmes and research platforms with mainland institutions, adding that the university’s academic standing and international reputation have been further elevated.

UM presents teaching award to excellent faculty member
At the Congregation 2022 held today (28 May), the University of Macau (UM) presented the Teaching Excellence Award, which recognises faculty members with outstanding performance in teaching. The recipient in the 2021/2022 academic year is Professor Gary Wong in the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS).

MPU Seniors Academy Holds an Art Exhibition Showcasing the Works of Teachers and Students
Organized by the Student Union of Macao Polytechnic University Seniors Academy, and co-organized by MPU Seniors Academy (ACS), the opening of the 2021/2022 Art Exhibition of the MPU Seniors Academy of Teachers and Students was held recently at the Lam Kan Exhibition Gallery of MPU. Many guests were invited to officiate and the scene was lively.
