Enthusiastic Online Census Response DSEC Appeals to Public to Complete Census Before 21 August

The 15-day data collection for the Population Census covering all households in Macao has passed its halfway point. As at 14 August, over 80,000 households in Macao have completed and submitted the Census questionnaire, which accounted for about 38.5% of the total. The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) appeals to the public to respond to the Census at the earliest convenience by completing the online or paper questionnaire or by telephone interview.

Erroneous Census Hotline Number Sent by One Telecommunication Service Provider

The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) announced that due to the technical problem of one of the telecommunication service providers, some of the households received today (13 Aug) a text message from DSEC that contains an incorrect Census Hotline number. The Hotline for the 2021 Population Census is 8809 8809. DSEC called for immediate action by the service provider to resolve the problem, and expressed apology to all the affected households.

Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – July 2021

The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP209.9 billion (USD26.22 billion) at the end of July 2021. The reserves increased by 0.1% from the revised value of MOP209.8 billion (USD26.23 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-July 2021 represented 11 times the currency in circulation or 86.2% of pataca M2 at end-June 2021.


Global Gaming & Tourism Research (The First Issue of 2021) by MPI is Now Published

Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) has recently published the first issue of Global Gaming & Tourism Research (Serial No.3) of 2021. This current issue of the Journal covers academic papers on gaming and tourism with contributing authors from the United Kingdom, Mainland China and Macao. The journal aims to promote the sustainable development of the gaming and tourism industry and to provide support for science-based decision-making across the government and gaming sectors. Beware of fraudulent phone call purportedly from the Health Bureau

Members of the public notified the Judiciary Police in relation to an unknown telephone call allegedly from the Health Bureau, with pre-recorded messages in both Cantonese and Putonghua, claiming that the caller has not yet collected important documents from the Bureau.


Multi-channel Promotions for Online Census Completion Questionnaire Collection Points Set Up to Facilitate Data Submission

The 15-day data collection for the 2021 Population Census has entered its sixth day today (12 Aug). In line with the pandemic prevention and control measures of the SAR Government, the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has spared no efforts to promote online Census response. Until now, over 57,000 households have completed the online questionnaire, which accounted for 27.5% of the total. Starting tomorrow (13 Aug), DSEC will set up 12 questionnaire collection points to facilitate submission of paper questionnaires, and send SMS reminders to all residents in Macao to encourage Census completion.
