Four research projects receive Academic Research Grant from the Cultural Affairs Bureau
Four research projects by local and overseas scholars received the 2021 Academic Research Grant from the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) after a strict evaluation process. The Academic Research Grant programme was set up to encourage the development of original academic research on Macao’s culture and the exchanges between Macao, Mainland China and other countries. Over the past three decades, IC has awarded grants to more than 160 research projects, which resulted in the publication of quite a number of academic monographs, with the aim of enhancing the influence of relevant academic research projects and promoting cultural exchange between Macao, Mainland China and other countries.

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) launched the “Macao Full of Fun – Smart Trip Planner” today (28 October), which incorporates more elements of community tourism and reorganizes the walking tour routes of "Step Out, Experience Macau's Communities". The smart trip planner enables users with different interests to plan their own trip itineraries for more enriched sightseeing experiences, with the aim to revitalize the community economy and push forward smart tourism development.

Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for September 2021
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 115 hotels & guesthouses were open for business in September 2021, a decrease of 1 year-on-year; meanwhile, number of available guest rooms increased by 2.9% to 36,000. Data on hotels & guesthouses designated for medical observation were excluded in the compilation of the results. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms rose by 33.5 percentage points year-on-year to 50.6%; moreover, it represented a month-on-month growth of 12.2 percentage points in consequence of the relaxation of entry and exit requirements during most of September as compared to August.

External merchandise trade statistics for September 2021
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise export amounted to MOP981 million in September 2021, up by 5.8% year-on-year. Re-exports (MOP783 million) grew by 3.7%, of which re-exports of Perfumes and Diamond & diamond jewellery surged by 247.8% and 125.5% respectively while those of Articles for casino fell by 75.3%. Value of domestic exports (MOP198 million) increased by 14.9%, with that of Pharmaceutical products & organic chemicals rising by 3.9%. Total merchandise import went up by 13.3% year-on-year to MOP12.00 billion, of which imports of Articles for casino, Gold jewellery, Watches and Handbags & wallets swelled by 404.3%, 213.0%, 89.0% and 78.9% respectively; in contrast, imports of Beauty, cosmetic & skincare products and Perfumes declined by 39.8% and 11.8% respectively. Merchandise trade deficit in September 2021 totalled MOP11.02 billion.

UM, Peking University hold conference in preparation for special issue of Journal of Accounting and Public Policy
The University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) and Peking University’s Guanghua School of Management jointly held an online conference on auditing and public policy in China. The event was held in preparation for a special issue of the Journal of Accounting and Public Policy (JAPP) to be published later. During the conference, over 200 experts and scholars from around the world exchanged ideas on opportunities and challenges in auditing research in China.
