UM researchers successfully develop novel nanomedicine to inhibit tumour growth
A research team led by Assistant Professor Dai Yunlu in the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) has designed and synthesised a novel nonomedicine, which can evoke potent anti-tumour immunoresponse, inhibit tumour growth, and stimulate long-lasting immunological memory. The study is a new breakthrough in melanoma immunotherapy and proposes a promising anti-tumour strategy. The research findings have been published in the internationally renowned journal Nature Communications.

CCAC unveiled a company falsely declaring data of local employees to apply for quotas of non-resident workers
The CCAC unveiled a company allegedly declaring false data of local employees to the Financial Services Bureau (DSF) and the Social Security Fund in order to apply for quotas to import or renew non-resident workers at the Labour Affairs Bureau. Moreover, the relevant employees also allegedly received payments under the anti-pandemic support fund in an unjustifiable way from the SAR Government.

Parade for Celebration of the Chinese New Year 2022 recruits local performance groups
The Parade for Celebration of the Chinese New Year is a mega iconic tourism event organized by Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO). Direct investment statistics for 2020
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that stock of inward direct investment in Macao totalled MOP 300.20 billion as at the end of 2020, down by 14.5% year-on-year. As regards immediate source of investment, Hong Kong and the Cayman Islands were the two major sources of investment. As at end 2020, stock of inward direct investment from Hong Kong decreased by 5.3% year-on-year to MOP 84.06 billion, while investment stock from the Cayman Islands dropped by 12.9% to MOP 69.74 billion. Besides, stock of inward direct investment from mainland China (MOP 58.77 billion) and the British Virgin Islands (MOP 47.94 billion) went down by 0.7% and 47.6% year-on-year. Analysed by industry, inward direct investment stock in Financial Activities increased by 4.6% year-on-year to MOP 86.88 billion, whereas that in the Gaming sector declined by 30.1% to MOP 126.77 billion.

Transport and communications statistics for September 2021
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 246,028 as at end-September 2021, up by 1.7% year-on-year. Light automobiles (112,506) and heavy motorcycles (104,821) increased by 1.9% and 3.2% year-on-year respectively. Meanwhile, new registration of motor vehicles in September declined by 37.8% year-on-year to 727, with that of heavy motorcycles (461) and light automobiles (247) dropping by 28.5% and 50.3% respectively. In the first three quarters of 2021, new registration of motor vehicles went up by 5.6% year-on-year to 9,294. Number of traffic accidents in September rose by 20.4% year-on-year to 1,205, with 390 persons injured. In the first three quarters of 2021, traffic accidents grew by 37.4% year-on-year to 9,737, which resulted in 1 death and 3,334 injuries.

The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) continues to promote the optimisation of garbage collection facilities by upgrading suitable garbage collection points in communities into compacting trash bins, improving garbage transport mode for the communities, and conducting various research projects to improve the conditions of use of the facilities for a clean community environment.

Employment survey for July-September 2021
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the general unemployment rate for July-September 2021 was 2.9% and the unemployment rate of local residents was 3.9%, up by 0.1 and 0.2 percentage points respectively from the previous period (June-August 2021). Besides, the underemployment rate increased by 0.2 percentage points to 3.9%.

The “Non-Mandatory Central Provident Fund System” Review Report was announced
The "Non-Mandatory Central Provident Fund System" Review Report was announced today (29th Oct). The report indicates that certain results have been achieved in the three years since the implementation of the System, and conditions have already been met to move towards its mandatory implementation. However, the emergence of COVID-19 has had an impact on Macao’s economy. It is recommended that the SAR government set 2021 to 2023 as the three-year observation period, and depending on the economic recovery, set up two plans with a five-year and a seven-year preparation period, and implement the Mandatory Central Provident Fund System in 2026 or 2028.
