CE: Looking forward to greater number of mainland visitors during Labour Day holiday
The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, today said the Government looked forward to the Labour Day holiday, starting on 1 May, delivering a greater number of mainland travellers to Macao. This would help expedite support for the local economy and promote Macao’s image as a healthy city, of low risk in terms of COVID-19.

31st Macao Arts Festival opens with the production White Snake leading the public to restart the artistic journey
The 31st Macao Arts Festival (MAF), organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from its Portuguese acronym), was inaugurated on 30 April. After a one-year absence, this year’s MAF presents diverse forms of art, including 20 extraordinary programmes and visual arts exhibitions, in a total of about 100 performances and outreach activities, inviting the public to “restart” the journey together.

Macao Grand Prix Museum increases ticket quotas during 1st May Labor Day Holidays
Since its start of trial operation in late March, the Macao Grand Prix Museum has gained wide popularity. With the steady upward trend of visitor arrivals, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) continues to carry out promotion through different channels to attract more visitors to Macao for a first-hand experience of this brand-new tourism product and a closer glimpse of the Macau Grand Prix’s history. More Mainland visitors are expected to arrive in Macao during the 1st May Labour Day Holidays. The Macao Grand Prix Museum will hence add new ticket quotas for purchase in advance. Visitors and residents are welcome to buy tickets online for scheduled visits on a first-come, first-served basis.

Urban Street Tree Planting Plan 2021
In order to increase the green quality of the city, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) intends to plant around 5,000 trees in the green belts and pavements of the main roads in all districts across Macao in 2020 and 2021. So far, nearly 4,000 trees have been planted in seedling form to better balance root and canopy growth, giving priority to tree species grown in southern China that are highly wind and drought resistant.

Macao Giant Panda Pavilion to open to the public for free from May
The Macao Giant Panda Pavilion managed by the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) will be open to the public and tourists for free from May 1. To comply with disease prevention measures and to maintain order on site, the public can make bookings for visits to the Macao Giant Panda Pavilion through the “Advance booking system for visiting green facilities (Individual)” (https://app.iam.gov.mo/gfbooking) from April 30.

Cultural Affairs Bureau launches audience survey on performing arts events inviting the public to participate
In order to know more about Macao residents’ perception of cultural and performing arts events, the Cultural Affairs Bureau is carrying out the “Performing Arts Events Audience Survey Research 2021”, which aims to support in the planning and formulation of future arts development policies through in-depth analysis of the data. The public is invited to participate in the survey, and all respondents who complete the survey will be eligible to win a prize.

Employment survey for January-March 2021

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the general unemployment rate for January-March 2021 held steady over the previous period (December 2020-February 2021), at 2.9%; the unemployment rate of local residents was 4.0%, up by 0.1 percentage point. In addition, the underemployment rate rose by 0.3 percentage points to 4.8%.

UM holds Macao Humanities Forum on interdisciplinarity in arts and life
The University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FAH) recently held the second Macao Humanities Forum featuring Prof Pan Gongkai, former president of Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) and former president of the China Academy of Art (CAA). During the event, Prof Pan delivered a speech on the pursuit of interdisciplinarity in arts and life. According to Prof Pan, ‘interdisciplinary’ is the way to go in arts.
