Professor of Macao Polytechnic Institute named among the World's Top Scientists

According to the World’s Top 2% Scientists List published by the research team of Stanford University in the United States, the top 2% of scientists were selected from nearly 7 million scientists in the world. The academic papers of Professor To Wai Ming of Macao Polytechnic Institute have been highly cited and he is amongst the top 2% of the world’s top scientists.


“Return to the Education with Love – Exhibition of Historical Objects of Escola Stella Matutina” opens on Friday

The Macao Museum, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will host “Return to the Education with Love – Exhibition of Historical Objects of Escola Stella Matutina” from 3 July to 3 October, on the third floor of the Museum. The thematic exhibition features old items of Escola Stella Matutina, in order to present the campus life of students from underprivileged families, as well as the sentiments and unforgettable memories of the alumni. The opening ceremony will be held on 2 July (Friday), at 6:30pm, in the main hall of the Macao Museum. All are welcome to visit.


Macao Polytechnic Institute Launched the China Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters in the Hong Kong and Macao SAR Regions

Macao's ever first China Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters (CATTI) was successfully conducted at the Macao Polytechnic Institute from June 19th to 20th. It was the very first time that Macao and Mainland China simultaneously launched this test on the same day. More than 100 candidates participated in the English and Portuguese-language interpretation and translation (level 1 to 3) test at the MPI test site. Prior to this, Jiang Ping, general manager of the CATTI Project Management Center of the China Foreign Languages ​​Bureau, and Feng Jingyi, deputy general manager, had paid a visit to the test sites at MPI. They were accompanied by MPI's Vice President Lei Ngan Lin and the Director of the School of Languages and Translation Han Lili, and were briefed on the allocations of the test sites and the conditions of the venue, other related security and confidentiality issues, and the anti-epidemic prevention measures during the tests, etc. They also provided guidance on technical aspects of the digitalized examination.


Cultural Affairs Bureau postpones “hush! Summer Concerts”

After a careful evaluation of the impact of the novel coronavirus pandemic, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) will postpone the “hush! Summer Concerts” scheduled for July. Further information will be announced in due course. Nevertheless, registrations for the short video competition “hush! 300 Seconds” are still open. IC welcomes music aficionados to submit a video of their own music or vocal performance before 5 July.


Macao confirms 54th COVID-19 case, involving imported infection

The Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre confirmed on 26 June a new imported case of COVID-19, taking to 54 the tally of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Macao since the epidemic alert began in 2020.

“China (Hebei) Pilot Free Trade Zone Key Industries Investment Promotion Session” Is Held to Create Business Co-operation Opportunities for Hebei and Macao

In order to strengthen economic and trade co-operation between Macao and Mainland China, and encourage Macao enterprises to seize development opportunities, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) joined hands with the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Hebei Province and Hebei Provincial Department of Commerce to hold the “China (Hebei) Pilot Free Trade Zone Key Industries Investment Promotion Session” online on 24 June, which attracted over 20 representatives from the political and business circles of the two regions to engage in in-depth discussion.


Employment survey for March-May 2021

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that both the general unemployment rate (3.0%) and the unemployment rate of local residents (4.1%) for March-May 2021 held steady from the previous period (February-April 2021). Meanwhile, the underemployment rate dropped by 0.6 percentage points to 4.2%.


IFTM online training programme in collaboration with UNWTO Capacity Building for Sustainable Tourism in Island Countries

The Global Centre of Tourism Education and Training of the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM), in collaboration with United Nations World Tourism Organisation, held its first training programme this year on 1, 3 and 4 June 2021, which comprised three webinars based on the theme of “Capacity Building for Sustainable Tourism in Island Countries”. This online training programme focused on destination management, Festivals and Events, and Sustainable Tourism Product Development.
