Mortgage loans statistics – January 2021

According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, new approvals of residential mortgage loans (RMLs) decreased while those of commercial real estate loans (CRELs) witnessed an increase in January 2021. With regard to the outstanding balances, RMLs rose whereas CRELs witnessed a decline.


Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao jointly launch film scriptwriting advanced programme aimed at cultivating local film talents

Applications for the “2021 Scripts in Focus—Film Scriptwriting Advanced Programme”, jointly organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) of the Macao SAR Government, the Film Administration of Guangdong Province and the Create Hong Kong, are now open until 20 April. All local filmmakers are welcome to join. Shortlisted projects will receive guidance from professional directors and scriptwriters, two representative projects will be selected from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao separately. Among these six projects, two winning projects will be selected and each will be awarded a prize.

The Macao Chinese Orchestra presents the much-anticipated concert “Bloom of Youth”

The Macao Chinese Orchestra (OCHM in Portuguese acronym) will present “Bloom of Youth”, a special concert in its 2020-21 season, on 26 March (Friday) at 8pm, at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium. In order to promote Chinese culture, celebrate youth, highlight the characteristics of Macao and showcase the charm of Chinese music, OCHM has invited renowned female conductor Chen Bing to perform several wonderful pieces in this concert.


UM to launch two new doctoral programmes

The University of Macau (UM) will launch two new doctoral programmes in the 2021/2022 academic year, namely the Doctor of Education Programme, offered by the Faculty of Education, and the Doctor of Public Administration Programme, offered by the Faculty of Social Sciences. In addition, the Master of Science in Data Science programme offered by the Institute of Collaborative Innovation will include a new specialisation, namely Smart Governance, and will revise three of its specialisations to Marketing Analytics, Computational Linguistics, and Analytics in Teaching and Learning.


Expansion construction of Macao Grand Prix Museum reaches completion Museum partially comes into trial operation in March

Upon completion of expansion construction, the Macao Grand Prix Museum, under the management of Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), will partially come into trial operation starting in March 2021. At the beginning stage, individuals and organizations from different sectors will be successively invited to pay inspection visits to the Museum and proffer feedback that may facilitate refinement of the Museum’s environment and service quality. Time slots will be opened in April for the public to make visit appointments, with the hope to solicit wider feedback from local and travelling visitors in preparation for the Museum’s upcoming official launch. Further details about arrangements for the public to book museum visits will be announced in due course. The public can stay tuned for MGTO’s latest information release.

The Electoral Affairs Commission for the Legislative Assembly Election has called on local news organisations to provide fair and objective coverage of all campaign teams, in order to ensure a lawful, fair, just and clean Legislative Assembly Election, an event set for 12 September.

The tourism authorities of Zhongshan, Zhuhai and Macao convened the “Work Meeting of the Tourism Alliance of Zhongshan, Zhuhai and Macao” in Zhongshan today (10 March) to discuss further cooperation in culture, tourism and related fields, push forward collaborations in destination marketing and expand visitor sources together continuously. On the same day, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) jointly held a Macao tourism and MICE presentation seminar in Zhongshan to showcase what Macao has to offer as a travel and MICE destination, with the aspiration to foster cross-sector cooperation including “tourism + MICE” and other fields between Macao and Zhongshan.

MGTO Deputy Director Cheng Wai Tong; Deputy Director of Zhongshan Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau, Deng Shuling; Deputy Director of Zhuhai Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports Bureau, Wu Xiangming, as well as other officials attended the meeting.
