Organized by the Secretariat for Economy and Finance of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government, and co-organized by the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Nanjing Municipal People’s Government, the “Macao Week in Jiangsu” was unveiled grandly in Nanjing today (14 May), unfolding a mega roadshow along the Pedestrian Street at Confucius Temple in Nanjing until 17 May. Through eye-catching booths, interactive experiences, stage performances, check-in games and more, the roadshow not only showcases the city’s unique, diverse offer of travel experiences and colorful dimensions of “tourism+”, but also promotes Macao as a healthy, safe and quality destination among Mainland residents. The event is part of the continuous endeavor to draw visitors for travel and spending in Macao.

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that there were 54 institutions offering vocational training courses in 2020. A total of 1,343 courses were organised, which decreased by 30.6% owing to the suspension of courses by some training institutions amid the pandemic. Total number of participants dropped by 25.3% to 61,292.

Ziyue Yu and Lihua He, two PhD students of Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI), recently won the Best Student Paper Award for their paper “Deep Learning for COVID-19 Prediction based on Blood Test” at the 6th International Conference on Internet of Things, Big Data and Security (IoTBDS 2021). This is the only best student paper at IoTBDS 2021, and was widely commended by the conference participants.

The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP206.7 billion (USD25.85 billion) at the end of April 2021. The reserves increased by 3.1% from the revised value of MOP200.5 billion (USD25.03 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-April 2021 represented 11 times the currency in circulation or 86.6% of pataca M2 at end-March 2021.

The Identification Services Bureau (DSI) will conduct system maintenance on 15^th May 2021 (Saturday) from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and the self-service applications for identification documents (i.e. self-service applications for Macau SAR Resident Identity Card, Macau SAR Travel Documents and Certificates) will be suspended at that time. Riding on the “Macao Week in Jiangsu”, the two offices organized the “Jiangsu — Macao Tourism and MICE Presentation Seminar” in Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu Province, today (13 May), joined by a travel and MICE trade delegation from Macao. The seminar presented the strengths of Macao’s tourism and MICE industries and facilitated networking among industry delegates from both sides, while raising Macao’s profile as a healthy, safe and quality destination.
