Cinematheque.Passion of the Cultural Affairs Bureau hosts a Programme showcasing Environmental Films for the first time in April
Since its re-opening in September 2020, the Cinematheque.Passion (hereinafter referred to as “Cinematheque”), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from its Portuguese acronym), has hosted a number of film festivals and film activities, bringing a wide variety of films to the audience. Since September 2020, nearly 8,000 people visited the Cinematheque and the ticketing rate reached over 70%. IC will continue to present various film festivals, activities and exhibitions of different genres and themes through the Cinematheque, bringing audiences a quality film experience.

Macao Polytechnic Institute’s publication Macao People’s Resistance War Won the Ministry of Education’s 8th Award for Outstanding Scientific Research Achievements of Higher Education Institutions (The Humanities and Social Sciences)
In the 8th Award for Outstanding Scientific Research Achievements of Higher Education Institutions (The Humanities and Social Sciences) organized by the Ministry of Education (MOE), the book Macao People’s Resistance War published by the Centre of Sino-Western Cultural Studies of Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) won in the category of “Popular Reading”. It is the first time for a Macao higher education institute to win in this category of the national award. Among more than 1,500 award-winning achievements nationwide, there are only 20 winners for the “Popular Reading” category, which shows that the research level of MPI has been recognized by academia and national authority.

UM professor’s book on Macao’s press history wins national award
Dr Agnes Lam, associate professor in the Department of Communication, Faculty of Social Sciences, and director of the university’s Centre for Macau Studies, received a second prize at the Eighth Award for Outstanding Scientific Research in Higher Education (Humanities and Social Sciences), with her book titled ‘The Beginning of the Modern Chinese Press History – Macao Press History 1557-1840’. This monograph updated content related to Macao in the modern press history of China, and many of the revisions have been adopted by journalism history textbooks in the mainland. It is an influential and highly regarded work in academia.

Employment survey for December 2020-February 2021
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that both the general unemployment rate (2.9%) and the unemployment rate of local residents (3.9%) for December 2020-February 2021 increased by 0.2 percentage points from the previous period (November 2020-January 2021). In addition, the underemployment rate rose by 0.1 percentage point to 4.5%.

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has strenuously geared up for the event and rolled out an extensive promotional campaign online and offline through various channels to create a strong buzz for the roadshow and further brand Macao as a healthy destination.

First CATTI Test Location in Macao and Hong Kong established at Macao Polytechnic Institute
Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) and the CATTI Program Project ManagementCenter of the Chinese Foreign Language Publishing Administration (the Center) held an online cooperation agreement signing ceremony on March 25, 2021.Prof. ImSio Kei, President of MPI, and Ms. Feng Jingyi,Legal Representative of the Center signed the cooperation agreement on behalf of both parties. The two parties will jointly promote the establishment of the first China Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters (CATTI) test location in Macao and Hong Kong at MPI and hold the first Chinese-Portuguese and Chinese-English tests here in June this year, which is also the first Chinese-Portuguese test in CATTI history.

Career and Internship Fair provides 2,800 job vacancies, UM helps graduating students find jobs via various channels
The University of Macau (UM) today (25 March) kicked off the Career and Internship Fair 2021. Approximately 100 companies and organisations participated in this year’s fair, providing over 2,800 job vacancies. To assist graduates in finding a job, the university has also organised 25 related events, including recruitment talks, career preparation seminars, and career exploration and training workshops. In addition, the university created a dedicated website to provide online career guidance and employment information for students.

Tickets for the 31st Macao Arts Festival on sale from Sunday Various ticketing channels available simultaneously
The 31st Macao Arts Festival (MAF), organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from its Portuguese acronym), will be held from 30 April to 29 May. Tickets will be available through the Macau Ticketing Network from 10am on 28 March (Sunday). Diverse ticketing channels, including ticketing service at the outlets, telephone and online booking, will be launched simultaneously. In order to cooperate with the epidemic prevention and control measures, to reduce crowd gathering onsite and to safeguard the public health, an online reservation system has been set up for the first day of ticket sales. Those who want to purchase tickets at the outlets from 10am to 3pm on the first day of ticket sales are required to reserve their ticketing slot through the online reservation system.

Registration for creative handicraft workshops of the “Tap Siac Craft Market” in spring is now open
Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from its Portuguese acronym), the “Tap Siac Craft Market” will be held from 16 to 18 April and from 23 to 25 April at Tap Siac Square, featuring various creative handicraft workshops. The fee for each handicraft workshop is MOP50. All interested parties can register for the workshops through the Tap Siac Craft Market website from 26 March.
