UM professor Xu Qingsong honoured as IEEE Fellow

Xu Qingsong, professor in the Department of Electromechanical Engineering of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), University of Macau (UM), has been elected a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the design and control of robotic micro- and nano-positioning and manipulation systems. Prof Xu is the first scholar from Macao to receive this honour from the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society. His election not only reflects his significant contributions to scientific research but also highlights UM’s growing reputation in the international academic community.

The Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) co-ordinated the participation of over 10 Macao enterprises and commerce associations in the “HOTELEX SHENZHEN 2024” held at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Centre from 12 to 14 December, with the aim of supporting Macao enterprises in expanding into mainland China and international markets, and exploring new business opportunities.


UM receives donation of over 1,400 specimens

The Centre for Macau Studies (CMS) of the University of Macau (UM) held the ‘Legacy of Biodiversity: Dr. Emmett R. Easton’s Specimen Donation Ceremony’. The specimens donated by Dr Emmett R. Easton were collected from Macao’s wild environment during his tenure at UM in the 1990s. They are invaluable for studying the evolution of Macao’s ecological environment.

The Second Business Conference on Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development (hereinafter referred to as: “Business Conference”) commenced today (11 Dec) in Hong Kong, featuring the theme “China's Bay Area, World’s Opportunities”. Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and President of All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce Gao Yunlong, Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region Ho Iat Seng, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region John KC Lee, Deputy Secretary-General of the People’s Government of Guangdong Province Huang Mingzhong, and Vice-President of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Zhang Shaogang gave opening remarks and delivered video speeches at the opening ceremony.

The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, today extended his sincerest congratulations to the people appointed as members of the next Executive Council by the sixth-term Chief Executive, Mr Sam Hou Fai.

The sixth-term Chief Executive, Mr Sam Hou Fai, has completed the procedures – in line with the Basic Law – for the formation of the Executive Council that will assist the sixth-term Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR).



Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – November 2024

The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today (13 December) that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP232.6 billion (USD29.02 billion) at the end of November 2024. The reserves increased by 1.7% from the revised value of MOP228.6 billion (USD28.56 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-November 2024 represented 11 times the currency in circulation or 90.0% of pataca M2 at end-October 2024.
