Cultural Affairs Bureau launches Macao Museum’s virtual tour app to enrich museum experiences of the public

In order to provide the public with rich museum experiences in a more diversified way, the Macao Museum, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, has launched the mobile app “Macao Museum VR/AR”. Innovative interactive technologies such as augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) enable users to enjoy the permanent exhibits along the tour route as if they were actually in the Macao Museum. By downloading the app, the public can enjoy the virtual museum and learn about the museum’s collections and the rich history of Macao.



Macao version of mainland’s ‘health code’ system to facilitate Macao people’s travel

The Government is preparing a local version of the mainland’s “health code”, a digital system for certifying the health condition of individual citizens. The aim is that such a system could be used by Macao people to facilitate them crossing into the mainland at Macao boundary points.


UM holds online seminar on SAR government’s policy address

The Centre for Macau Studies (CMS) of the University of Macau (UM) yesterday (22 April) held an online seminar on the Macao SAR government’s policy address for the year 2020, which is the first policy address of the fifth leadership of the Macao SAR government. As per its usual practice, after the chief executive gave the annual address, the centre arranged for experts and scholars to discuss and analyse the policy’s content in order to provide opinions to the government for reference. Because of the epidemic, this year’s seminar was held online for the first time in the university’s history.


MPI Organises Online Sharing for Student Career Development

The first online career fair of Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) started in early April. With a series of career talks and workshops, the fair aims to provide not only the latest industry information but also job-hunting techniques for students without requiring them to leave home during this epidemic period. This year, co-organised with the Greater Bay Area Aviation Exchange Association (GBAA), MPI Alumni Association and MPI Student Union, the Student Affairs Office of MPI held its first online sharing session of “The Development of Aviation Industry and its Career Paths” live streaming on a social platform, attracting nearly 3,000 views in a day.


SMG has recorded felt earthquake

Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) has recorded an earthquake of magnitude 2.2 at 2020-04-22 11:35 am. The epicenter was located approximately 21 km southwest of Macau. This is the second earthquake with magnitude 2.0 or above recorded within 100 km of Macau since this year. The last one occurred on January 05 of this year, with magnitude 3.5. Both of the earthquakes are rather weak.


April is the Month for Payment of Contributions and FSS Reminds Employers and Residents to Pay Contributions as Early as Possible

Under the Social Security System, April is the month for payment of contributions for the first quarter of this year. The Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) reminds that 30th April (Thursday) is the first day of consecutive holidays, and the contribution period will be extended to the next working day. The FSS expects that the number of people at the service point will increase approaching the end of the month. Employers are urged to make early payments and use appointment services, and employers who have already applied for the use of electronic filing service, and beneficiaries of the arbitrary system should make use of the electronic payment channels as much as possible.


Online reading promoted on “World Book Day” on 23 April

Jointly organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) and the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ), and co-organized by the University of Macau and Macao Library and Information Management Association, the activity “4.23 Reading in the City” will be launched online in April, offering reading recommendations for the public. The activity, with the slogan “Read actively and independently to gain valuable insights!”, aims at inciting the residents to open a book on 23 April the “World Book Day”, in order to enjoy the pleasure of reading.


UM’s Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship receives approval to serve as national co-working space

The University of Macau (UM) Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) has received approval to join China’s national system of co-working space. This is testament to the Ministry of Science and Technology’s recognition of industry-academia development at UM and the central government’s encouragement and support for the development of technological innovations as well as the commercialisation of research result in Macao.
