New round of face mask supply scheme starts today

The eighth round of the face mask supply scheme started today, allowing members of the public to purchase a total of 10 face masks at designated locations by presenting either a Macao ID card or a non-resident worker ID card.



UM-developed new technology enables high-sensitivity liver fibrosis detection

The latest technology developed by the University of Macau (UM) is expected to bring a breath of hope for patients suffering from chronic liver disease! Long-term presence of acute and chronic hepatitis can cause liver fibrosis, which can progress to cirrhosis or even liver cancer. In view of this, a research team led by Wang Chunming, an associate professor of the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences at UM, has developed a new technology for early detection of fibrotic markers. Mouse models have shown that this technology can achieve high-sensitivity detection of tissue fibrosis, and has the potential to be applied to liver fibrosis detection, so that patients can receive early treatment. The study has been published in the top international journal Nature Communications.


MPI Student Film TAKE A RISK Wins 3 International Film Awards

Being the first Design Programme in Macao, MPI’s 25-year-old Bachelor of Arts is regarded as the regional cradle of the arts and creative industry. With the passion and love in arts, the persistence in pursuing dreams, MPI students actively participate in various competitions and received international awards. The class project TAKE A RISK, created by NG Weng Ian, LEI Seng Hou and LAI Weng Ian, students of MPI’ s design programme, has received Honorable Mention of Best Documentary Short Film of American Golden Picture International Film Festival, Honorable Mention of Student Film of New York Movie Awards, and Honorable Mention of Best Student Film of Oniros Film Awards.


Macao confirms two imported COVID-19 cases

The Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre has confirmed on Monday (30 March) two new cases of imported COVID-19 infection, taking to 41 the tally of confirmed cases in Macao.


Recruitment of temporary workers for Population Census Pilot Survey starts

Macao will conduct the 16th Population Census and the 6th Housing Census in 2021. To ensure a smooth census operation, the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) will perform a pilot survey for the 2021 Population Census from 8 to 22 August this year, for a period of 15 days. A total of about 100 temporary workers, comprising field workers and internal workers, will be recruited to support data collection and other routine work. Posts for field workers include enumerator, enumerator for special task and leader, whose main duties are to collect and verify census data through field visits. Posts for internal workers include telephone system operator and center assistant, whose main duties are to handle hotline enquiries and assist in internal administrative tasks.


Contact information modification service is extended to Macao Post and Communications Bureau

The Identification Services Bureau (DSI) cooperates with the Macao Post and Communications Bureau (CTT) to extend the coverage of contact information modification service, which allows citizens to update their address and contact information at various public departments at one time.



UM students win Merit Award at ACCA – CFA Institute Business Competition 2019-20

A team of students from the University of Macau (UM) recently won a Merit Award at the ACCA - CFA Institute Business Competition 2019-20. Co-organised by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Chartered Financial Analyst Institute (CFA Institute), the competition attracted more than 1,100 students from higher education institutions in Hong Kong and Macao.


UM establishes joint cancer research centre with CAS institute of oncology and basic medicine

The University of Macau (UM) and the Institute of Oncology and Basic Medicine (IOBM) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) have signed a collaboration agreement to establish a joint cancer research centre. The agreement aims to give full play to the advantages of the collaboration between UM and IOBM in terms of scientists and technologists, medical resources, and innovative research, and to improve the health and wellbeing of people in Macao, the Greater Bay Area, and the rest of China. Both parties will work together on key scientific and technical issues in cancer prevention and treatment as well as cancer drug research and development. Innovative basic and clinical research will be carried out to develop the centre into an internationally renowned oncology research and talent training base.
