Macao Public Library of the Cultural Affairs Bureau extends book loan period until 11 May
In view of the impact of the novel coronavirus pneumonia, the Macao Public Library under the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) has further extended the loan period until 11 May (Monday) for library materials originally due to be returned between 24 January and 10 May. Therefore the public do not have to hasten to return the materials to the public libraries.

Transport and communications statistics for February 2020
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 240,662 as at end-February 2020, a slight increase of 0.6% year-on-year. Light automobiles (109,654) and heavy motorcycles (99,959) rose by 1.3% and 2.1% respectively, whereas light motorcycles (23,705) dropped by 7.6%. As vehicle registration services were temporarily suspended in February amid the epidemic of novel coronavirus pneumonia, new registration of motor vehicles reduced by 39.9% year-on-year to 436, with light automobiles (222) and heavy motorcycles (192) falling by 21.3% and 53.2% respectively. In the first two months of 2020, new registration of motor vehicles decreased by 31.0% year-on-year to 1,349. Number of traffic accidents in February declined by 62.6% year-on-year to 431, and number of injuries totalled 150. In the first two months, there were 1,443 traffic accidents, involving 497 victims and 3 of them were killed.

Measures to facilitate registration for consumption subsidy of newborn babies

In order to support the implementation of the Consumption Subsidy Scheme, the Identification Services Bureau (DSI) introduces measures to facilitate the registration for consumption subsidy of eligible newborn babies who do not hold the Macao Special Administrative Region Resident Identity Card (hereinafter called resident identity card) within the registration period.

International journal reports anti-epidemic achievements of UM and Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre in Macao
The International Journal of Biological Sciences recently published a special issue titled ‘The global battle against SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19’, which reports the achievements and experience of Macao’s public health sector in the fight against the novel coronavirus epidemic. The Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre (Centro Hospitalar Conde de São Januário) in Macao proposed that patients infected with the novel coronavirus should only be discharged from the hospital upon showing negative results from two separate fecal nucleic acid tests. The related findings are very valuable for the global anti-epidemic effort. Other articles published in the special issue include a report on an epidemiological survey conducted by a team led by doctors of the Wuhan Mental Health Centre, a study from the University of Hong Kong’s (HKU) Faculty of Medicine, and a series of articles from the University of Macau’s (UM) Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) and Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS).

Whereabouts in Macao of the Hong Kong Confirmed Case 3 Tested Negative amongst 8 Close Contacts

The Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre revealed that, as reported by the Hong Kong authorities, a confirmed case of COVID-19 has visited Macao during March 22 to 27. The case is a 40-year-old female Hong Kong resident of Filipino nationality, working as a bar waitress in Hong Kong. She resided in Rua de S. José no. 11 Edf. Tak Cheong during her stay in Macao; her flatmates include 1 co-worker from Hong Kong and 1 Filipino non-resident worker registered in Macao, no other individuals shared the residence apart from them.
