Concert“The Charm of Macao”by the Macao Chinese Orchestra selected for the Sixth Ethnic Minority Art Festival of China

Jointly organized by the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the National Radio and Television Administration, the China Media Group, and the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, the Sixth Ethnic Minority Art Festival of China was inaugurated recently and 42 performances were selected from 101 submissions from all around China. With the strong recommendation of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, the concert “The Charm of Macao” by the Macao Chinese Orchestra, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, has been successfully included in this year’s Festival, as the only selected production from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.


UM researchers create ‘spider silk’ to promote blood vessel growth and wound healing

A research team in the University of Macau’s (UM) Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences, led by ICMS Associate Professor Wang Chunming, has designed a biomaterial that can preferentially support vascular endothelial cell adhesion and promote blood vessel growth and wound healing. This material is thin and cloth-like and is produced in a process similar to a spider spinning silk. Once applied clinically, this invention may provide new therapeutic approaches for peripheral vascular disease and many other disorders. The paper has been published online in Advanced Materials.


Results of Gaming Sector Survey 2020

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that number of enterprises engaged in gaming activities stayed at 9 in 2020. Total receipts of the gaming sector slid by 78.4% year-on-year to MOP63.94 billion, on account of a substantial decline in the number of visitor arrivals amid the novel coronavirus pandemic. Receipts from gaming (MOP60.32 billion) and rental (MOP38.00 million) fell by 79.4% and 29.1% year-on-year respectively; in addition, interest receipts (MOP2.65 billion) recorded a decrease of 1.9%.


Annual Activities of Communications Museum

In order to continue promoting the popularity of telecommunications science and technology, Communications Museum is going to launch two annual activities, Science and Arts Activity for Primary Students 2021 and Electronic Device Construction Competition 2022, to let students explore interesting scientific phenomena and principles in order to foster their spirit of “Dare to experiment. Dare to discover.” through competitions. The Science and Arts Activity for Primary Students aims to encourage students to bring into their artistic and scientific creativity, while the Electronic Device Construction Competition for high school students aims to encourage students to participate in teams to design and make their own electronic device to complete a set of designated tasks which in the way, showing their knowledge of science through practical application.

Secretary details Macao’s effort for Guangdong-Macao Intensive Cooperation Zone in Hengqin
