Employment survey for December 2019 – February 2020
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the general unemployment rate for December 2019-February 2020 was 1.9% and the unemployment rate of local residents was 2.6%, up by 0.2 and 0.3 percentage points respectively from the previous period (November 2019-January 2020). Besides, the underemployment rate increased by 0.4 percentage points to 0.8%.

UM to resume undergraduate courses on 20 April for students graduating this year
In accordance with the guidelines issued by the Higher Education Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region and considering the actual circumstances of the University of Macau (UM), the university has decided that bachelor’s students graduating this academic year will resume classes on 20 April and that bachelor’s students not graduating this academic year will continue with distance learning until the end of this semester. UM stresses that students are not allowed to return to the campus before class resumption without authorisation.

UM joins online meeting to share anti-epidemic measures with 14 universities around the world
The University of Macau (UM) today (27 March) participated in an online meeting with presidents and representatives of 14 well-known universities around the world. During the meeting, representatives of UM shared the university’s anti-epidemic measures, experience in transitioning from classroom-based teaching to online teaching, as well as how the university assumes its social responsibility during the epidemic. Participants also discussed the benefits of online education and how institutions around the world can deepen collaboration in scientific research and increase the exchange of information against challenges arising from the pandemic.

UM wins first prize of sci-tech progress award for joint project with Hengqin
The University of Macau (UM) recently developed a project titled ‘Key Technologies and Applications of Cross-domain Multi-dimensional Electronic Monitoring’,with various companies and institutions, including Zhuhai Dahengqin Technology Development Co Ltd, South China University of Technology, and Wuhan University. The project received a first prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award at a conference on science, technology, and innovation in Guangdong province. UM’s receiving this award reflects the success of collaboration between Hengqin and Macao in scientific research, which will help foster a synergy among Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao in technological innovation.

Initiated as a class project, MPI students HO Ka Wai, LONG Weng Si, SIO Seng Tak and LI Wei have gone the distance and brought this Macao local story to the world stage, conglomerating theory and practice, learning and experience, and academia and techniques fostered by MPI’s distinctive programme of Bachelor of Arts in Design.
