Prof Michael Hui appointed UM vice rector (academic affairs)

The University of Macau (UM) has appointed Prof Michael Hui as its vice rector (academic affairs), following a rigorous global search process. A renowned marketing scholar and former pro-vice-chancellor/vice-president at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Prof Hui has garnered rich experience in teaching, research, and management.


Consumer Council released 8th supermarket price survey report of the current month

The Consumer Council conducted its ‘Supermarket price survey’ of the second-half of December on 26 December for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 14 supermarkets in N. Sra. de Fátima Parish. Consumers may now check the report data on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo), the “Supermarket Price Information Platform” app, or the Council’s WeChat account.


Visitor arrivals for November 2019

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals totalled 2,910,118 in November 2019, down by 10.9% year-on-year. Same-day visitors (1,501,711) and overnight visitors (1,408,407) dropped by 10.5% and 11.4% respectively year-on-year. The average length of stay of visitors held steady year-on-year at 1.2 days; overnight visitors extended their stay by 0.2 day to 2.4 days, while the duration for same-day visitors stood at 0.2 day.


CE and delegation return to Macao after visiting Guangzhou and Zhuhai

(Macao – 25 December 2019) The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, said yesterday (24 December) during a trip to Guangdong Province, that the reason for him leading a delegation of the new Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) to visit Guangzhou and Zhuhai was in order comprehensively to fulfil the instructions of President Xi Jinping. Those instructions included enhancing cooperation between Guangdong and Macao, and optimising the development of Hengqin through cooperation between Zhuhai and Macao: steps that would help to broaden the scope of Macao’s long-term development, and inject new impetus into it.





Splendid fireworks dazzle Macao and Zhuhai  Both cities rejoice over the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao SAR

At this momentous time when the entire city rejoices over the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region, the “Macao-Zhuhai Fireworks Show in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Macao’s Handover to the Motherland” was staged splendidly tonight (22 December). The magnificent fireworks set the night sky ablaze across Macao and Zhuhai, bringing festive joy to residents and visitors.
