Applications for the 38th Macao Young Musicians Competition open in April
Due to the impact of the novel coronavirus pneumonia, the 38thMacao Young Musicians Competition, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), will be postponed to between 15 August and 6 September. Visitor arrivals for February 2020
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that affected by the ongoing epidemic of the novel coronavirus pneumonia, visitor arrivals in February 2020 plunged by 95.6% year-on-year to 156,394. Same-day visitors (81,090) and overnight visitors (75,304) tumbled by 96.0% and 95.0% respectively. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of visitors went up by 1.8 days to 2.8 days, attributable to a longer stay of Mainland visitors that took up the majority of total visitor arrivals. Another contributing factor was the growth in the proportion of overnight visitors (54.9%) among the Mainland visitors. The average duration for overnight visitors surged from 2.1 days in February last year to 5.4 days while that for same-day visitors dropped from 0.2 day to 0.1 day.

UM PhD student publishes articles in three renowned international journals
Riccardo Vecellio Segate, an Italian PhD candidate in the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Law (FLL), has published research articles in three well-known international journals in the past 18 months. The three journals are Columbia Journal of Asian Law, Art Antiquity and Law, and Maastricht Journal of European and Comparative Law.

Consumer price index (CPI) for February 2020
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Composite CPI (103.56) for February 2020 increased by 2.33% year-on-year, a slowdown of 0.65 percentage points from the growth in January 2020 (+2.98%). The increment was attributable to higher charges for eating out, rising rentals for dwellings as well as dearer prices of fresh pork, gasoline and Liquefied Petroleum Gas.

GGCT issues Level 2 Travel Alert for All Overseas countries/ territories

Given the recent situation of the novel coronavirus pneumonia around the world, the Tourism Crisis Management Office (GGCT) after obtaining the opinion from the Health Bureau and based on Public Health considerations, has issued a Level 2 Travel Alert to All overseas countries/ territories:
The Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) strongly urges Macao residents to avoid non-essential travel during this period. Macao residents who are currently overseas should pay more attention to local Government announcements, and take reference from the epidemic prevention guidelines issued by the Macau Health Bureau.
