“China (Hebei) Pilot Free Trade Zone Key Industries Investment Promotion Session” is held on 24 June
In order to strengthen economic and trade co-operation between Macao and Mainland China, and encourage Macao enterprises to seize development opportunities, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) joined hands with the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Hebei Province and Hebei Provincial Department of Commerce to hold the “China (Hebei) Pilot Free Trade Zone Key Industries Investment Promotion Session” online on 24 June, which attracted over 20 representatives from the political and business circles of the two regions to engage in in-depth discussion.

Employment survey for March-May 2021
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that both the general unemployment rate (3.0%) and the unemployment rate of local residents (4.1%) for March-May 2021 held steady from the previous period (February-April 2021). Meanwhile, the underemployment rate dropped by 0.6 percentage points to 4.2%.

The Global Centre of Tourism Education and Training of the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM), in collaboration with United Nations World Tourism Organisation, held its first training programme this year on 1, 3 and 4 June 2021, which comprised three webinars based on the theme of “Capacity Building for Sustainable Tourism in Island Countries”. This online training programme focused on destination management, Festivals and Events, and Sustainable Tourism Product Development.

Macau International Airport held yearly fuel farm exercise Process deemed smooth
The yearly fuel farm exercise was conducted this afternoon (25 June 2021) at Macau International Airport, simulating a fire in the farm as to continually test and assess the capacity of the government entities and the operators in handling a fuel farm emergency when a case arises as well as the communication mechanism between all personnel involved. The exercise last for one hour and was deemed smooth. About 250 people participated in the exercise

UM exhibits graduation projects to promote academia-industry collaboration
The University of Macau’s (UM) Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) recently held the Dean’s Final Year Project List Presentation Ceremony and Project Exhibition 2021.
The event exhibited 25 selected projects to showcase the students’ learning achievements, with five of them being rated as ‘outstanding projects’. Through this event, the university hoped to create a platform for academia-industry exchange, enhance academia-industry collaboration, and promote technology transfer.

UM scholar receives prestigious J. Worth Estes Prize for her study in the history of pharmacology
Beatriz Puente-Ballesteros, an assistant professor in the Department of History, University of Macau, was named recipient of the 2021 J. Worth Estes Prize at the annual meeting of the American Association for the History of Medicine. The award is presented annually to the author of the best paper in the history of pharmacology published in the past two years.
