MICE statistics for the 4th quarter of 2019
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that number of MICE events held in the fourth quarter of 2019 remained unchanged year-on-year at 461, including 432 meetings & conferences, 21 exhibitions and 8 incentives. Number of participants and attendees edged down by 0.4% to 733,000. For the whole year of 2019, a total of 1,536 MICE events were held, an increase of 109 year-on-year, with 1,459 meetings & conferences (+117), 58 exhibitions (-2) and 19 incentives (-6). Number of participants and attendees totalled 2,003,000, a drop of 5.4%.

Arrangement for the distribution of service quota for the money transfer service of Western Union in Macao Postal Savings
CTT Macao would like to inform that, the online pre-registration for the money transfer service of Western Union in Macao Postal Savings, situated in San Ma Lou (Av. de Almeida Ribeiro), will be maintained. Starting from today, citizens may obtain the online quota by registering in https://philately.ctt.gov.mo/QueuingAppWeb, with limited quota distributing in a “first-come-first-served” basis.

Reopening of CCAC’s Branch Office at Areia Preta
The Branch Office of the CCAC at Areia Preta is now reopen to the public following the completion of interior renovation. The Commissioner Against Corruption, Chan Tsz King, officiated at the reopening ceremony today (6th March). He hopes that the Branch Office will work more effectively for promotion and education after reopening. The CCAC will continue to fully implement the two-pronged anti-corruption policy which focuses on both suppression and prevention. The renovated Branch Office, which caters better for the needs related to the services to be provided for citizens and promotion and education of integrity, will further strengthen the connection with schools and the community in order to join hands with citizens to build a clean society.

Demographic statistics for the 4th quarter of 2019
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the total population at end-2019 increased by 12,200 year-on-year to 679,600, with the female population accounting for 53.3% of the total. The proportion of elderly population (aged 65 and over) grew by 0.8 percentage points year-on-year to 11.9%, whereas that of adult population (aged 15-64) dropped by 0.8 percentage points to 74.9%. The population of Macao continued to age, with the ageing ratio rising to 90.3%.

UM researchers invent low-cost methods to generate cardiac muscle cells
Cardiac muscles cells are considered difficult to regrow and the differentiation process is costly. To address this problem, a research team from the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS), University of Macau (UM), invented two new methods to generate heart cells in vitro with high consistency and quality, without using expensive and complicated supplements. This is a key step toward the generation of heart cells for cell therapy and drug screening. The study has been published in the renowned journalCell Reports.
