UM scholar receives Imago Mundi Prize

Mario Cams, an assistant professor from the Department of History (FAH), University of Macau (UM), received the Imago Mundi Prize 2019 at the International Conference for the History of Cartography in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, for his paper titled ‘Not Just a Jesuit Atlas of China: Qing Imperial Cartography and Its European Connections’.

Tickets for the 33rd Macao International Music Festival Available from Sunday

The 33rd Macao International Music Festival (MIMF), organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will be held from 4 to 30 October, featuring 17 programmes in a total of 22 excellent performances. Tickets will be available through Macau Ticketing Network outlets from 10 a.m. on 4 August, Sunday. For the convenience of the public, queuing vouchers will be distributed from 9 a.m., while telephone and online bookings are available from 12 p.m. on the same day. All are welcome to join.

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) launches its newly-designed Macao tourism promotion website (https://www.macaotourism.gov.mo) today (1 August), with new and enhanced functionalities such as responsive design, visually-oriented content, map integration, and social media integration. UM summer camps attract nearly 1,000 local and overseas students

The University of Macau’s (UM) this year continues to organise summer camps and summer programmes of different themes, including microelectronics, Chinese medical sciences, artificial intelligence, science promotion, biomedical sciences, Portuguese, and English, to help students discover their talents and interests. This year’s events attracted a total of nearly 1,000 local and overseas students.


Ruins of St. Paul’s will be closed on 6 August to enable the Cultural Affairs Bureau to conduct weeding maintenance and routine check-up

The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) will conduct weeding maintenance on the façade of the Ruins of St Paul’s and perform inspections of the bronze statues of the façade from 7a.m. to 5p.m. on 6 August 2019 (Tuesday), during which time the forecourt and the monument’s site (including the Museum of Sacred Art and Crypt) will not be accessible to the public.

The aeronautical authorities of mainland China, Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR signed the cooperation arrangement on aviation security today in Macao with the objective of establishing the long-term collaboration between the three areas on the aviation security policies and the technical operations.


Wages of construction workers and prices of construction materials for the 2nd quarter of 2019

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the average daily wage of construction workers decreased by 2.6% quarter-to-quarter to MOP743 in the second quarter of 2019, due to lower demand for construction workers following the near completion of several large-scale entertainment facilities projects. The average daily wages of local (MOP987) and non-resident construction workers (MOP597) fell by 2.9% and 4.3% respectively quarter-to-quarter.


Macao's Base Rate of the Discount Window Lowered to 2.50%

The Monetary Authority of Macao (AMCM) followed the Hong Kong Monetary Authority to lower the Base Rate of the Discount Window today (1 August 2019) by 25 basis points to 2.50%, which discontinued the local policy-rate upcycle starting from December 2015.
