MPI and SCIC co-organised the “9th Conference Interpreting Training Seminar”

In order to develop professionals in the field of interpreting in the Portuguese-speaking conferences in Macao and the Mainland China, the “9th Conference Interpreting Training Seminar” jointly organised by the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) and the European Commission Directorate-General for Interpretation (SCIC) was held at MPI on June 24. More than a dozen interpreters from the government departments of the Mainland and Macao SAR attended a two-week high-level, high-intensity, intensive training course in Portuguese. The organisers looked forward to strengthening the “One Belt and One Road” and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area through the seminar, and to enhancing the role of Macao as a platform for exchanges and cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.


Cultural Affairs Bureau carries out restoration works inside St. Dominic’s Church

The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) will carry out restoration works, particularly focused on the interior pilasters of St. Dominic’s Church, from Saturday, 27 July, estimating its completion by the end of November. During the restoration period, the Church will be temporarily closed and the Treasure of Sacred Art will remain open to the public. We apologize for any inconvenience. UM professor receives award from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health

Prof Brian Hall from the University of Macau’s (UM) Faculty of Social Sciences received an Excellence in Advising Award from the Center for Global Health of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHBSPH). According to the JHBSPH’s website: candidates for this award are nominated by the students, and recipients are recognised ‘for their passion, dedication, and expertise in guiding students through global health research’. The JHBSPH has been consistently ranked as the No 1 public health school in the United States and among the best in the world.


Two UM inventions in Chinese medicine win gold awards at International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva

Two inventions by a group of researchers from the University of Macau’s (UM) State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine—one is a series of innovative Chinese herbal products and the other is a zebrafish screening system based on microfluidic technology—stood out from nearly 1,000 inventions and won gold awards at the 47th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva. The Chinese herbal products are the first modern Chinese herbal products from Macao to win this award.


“China and Portuguese-speaking Countries Film Festival” opens presenting outstanding local productions and closing film

The “China and Portuguese-speaking Countries Film Festival”, featured in the “2nd Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries” is held from 4 to 17 July, presenting over 20 films from China and several Portuguese-speaking countries. The Film Festival is divided into three sections, namely “Classics’ Review”, “New Vision of China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries” and “Olá Macao”. The section “Olá Macao” features several local productions, while the closing film The Portuguese Woman features beautiful scenes which fully demonstrate the characteristics of Portuguese films. Tickets for the screenings are now available. All are welcome.


“Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Smart Education Seminar” held at MPI

In order to promote the resources and information exchange of smart education in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and strengthen the cooperation in the field of science and technology between universities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, the “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Smart Education Seminar” jointly organised by the Computer Academy of Guangdong (CAG) and the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI), implemented by the Higher Education Network Engineering and Education Information Committee of CAG, and the Computer Service Centre of MPI, co-organised by the Centre for Teaching and Learning Enhancement of the University of Macau, was held at MPI on June 21. A total of 25 representatives from higher education institutions participated in the exchanges and discussions on topics such as smart campus construction, university informationisation, and resource and information sharing.


Consumer Council released 2nd supermarket price survey report of the current month

The Consumer Council conducted its ‘Supermarket price survey’ of the first-half of July on 8 July for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 13 supermarkets in São Lázaro, São Lourenço and Sé Parishes. Consumers may now check the report data on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo), the “Supermarket Price Information Platform” app, or the Council’s WeChat account.



Residential property price index for March – May 2019

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the overall residential property price index for March - May 2019 increased by 0.9% over the previous period (February - April 2019) to 268.3. The indices for the Macao Peninsula (270.9) and Taipa & Coloane (257.5) rose by 1.1% and 0.2% respectively.
