IFTM Council holds first-ever meeting

According to Macao’s Higher Education Regime, local tertiary education institutions are required to establish a general council. A number of prominent figures from the fields of tourism, hospitality, education and culture, drawn from either the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) or outside, was recently appointed as members of the Council of the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM). The appointments by the Chief Executive were via Chief Executive Dispatch No. 109/2020, published on 29 April 2020.


UM develops photodynamic diagnostic agent for more effective treatment of deep tumours

The University of Macau (UM) has made new progress in medical molecular imaging and precision medicine in cancer treatment. A research team at the university has developed a photodynamic diagnostic agent with multi-modal molecular imaging contrast function and near-infrared light excitation, which can help improve the precision of photodynamic treatment of deep tumours, thereby improving treatment efficacy. The study has been published in the top international journal Biomaterials (2018 Impact Factor: 10.273).


Residential property price Index for January – March 2020

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the overall residential property price index for January - March 2020 decreased by 0.2% over the previous period (December 2019 - February 2020) to 264.1. The indices for the Macao Peninsula (265.7) and Taipa & Coloane (257.6) dropped by 0.2% and 0.4% respectively.


Credit card statistics –1st quarter 2020

According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, the total number of personal credit cards issued by banks in Macao continued to rise in the first quarter of 2020. Both the credit card turnover and total repayments witnessed year-on-year declines.


Fighting Against the Epidemic IPIM Launches Online Service “Business Matching for Epidemic Prevention Supplies”

As the novel coronavirus pneumonia continues to spread around the world, the demand for ventilators, protective suits, masks, disinfection supplies, medical equipment and other epidemic prevention supplies has increased significantly at home and abroad. In order to precisely match up supply and demand sides of epidemic prevention supplies, to join hands with all sectors of society to fight against the epidemic, IPIM launched a new section to its Online Business Matching Service Platform (https://bm.ipim.gov.mo/), the “Business Matching for Epidemic Prevention Supplies”. It aims to provide a round-the-clock matching platform for the supply and demand sides for epidemic prevention supplies.


Nucleic acid-test scheme aims to facilitate boundary-crossing commuting by Macao ID holders

The Government has today launched a new phase of a regular scheme enabling human nucleic acid testing that seeks to facilitate commuting by Macao ID holders that live either in Zhuhai or Zhongshan, and that wish to travel to and from Macao in order to attend either their workplace or school.

Macao ceases consideration for tourist tax imposition

After making a comprehensive assessment of the findings of the Feasibility Study on Tourist Tax Imposition, the characteristics of Macao’s tourism industry as well as the latest turn of the situation, the Special Administrative Region Government decided to bring an end to its consideration of the possibility of tourist tax imposition. Visitor arrivals have plunged in Macao in recent months, causing various degrees of impact on the tourism-related industries. It has become a priority at this stage for the SAR Government to bolster recovery of the trade.


Macao Polytechnic Institute Deepens Training of Sino-Portuguese Bilingual Talents via Launching the Global Portuguese Textbook Series

Along with the implementation of Macao SAR Government's “Policy Address for the Fiscal Year 2020”, to leverage the role and advantages of Macao's “Sino-Portuguese platform” and to promote the development of Macao’s “International Portuguese Training Centre” and “training base of Chinese-Portuguese bilingual talents”, Macao Polytechnic Institute has launched its Portuguese textbook Global Portuguese online as a convenient means of learning for all Macao residents, students and people from all walks of life to access the Portuguese learning material via the internet at all times.
