Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – October 2024

The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today (14 November) that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP228.7 billion (USD28.56 billion) at the end of October 2024. The reserves decreased by 0.8% from the revised value of MOP230.6 billion (USD28.81 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-October 2024 represented 11 times the currency in circulation or 88.9% of pataca M2 at end-September 2024.

Rental statistics for the 3rd quarter of 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the average rent per square metre of usable area for residential units in Macao was MOP137 in the third quarter of 2024, up by 1.6% quarter-on-quarter. Meanwhile, the average rent for shops dropped by 1.1% to MOP491, mainly due to the relatively low average rent of new leases.

Due to tropical cyclone, by regulation, classes of primary, infant, special education are suspended today. Schools should ensure that their premises are open and arrange for staff to look after the students who have arrived at school until the conditions are safe for them to go home. Classes or educational activities of secondary education are as usual.
