O Lam, the representative of the Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) and Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture; Bian Lixin, Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macao SAR; Ai Yiping, Director of the Department of Personnel and the Department of Social Development of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Academician Zhao Yupei, President of the Chinese Medical Association and Honorary President of Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH); Academician Zhou Jian, President of Zhongshan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University; Zhang Shuyang, President of Peking Union Medical College Hospital; He Xiang, Secretary-General of the Chinese Medical Association; Li Wei, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of the National Health Commission; Lo Iek Long, Director of the Macao Health Bureau; and Liu Zhengyin, Director of the Macao Union Medical Center served as the officiating guests at the opening ceremony.

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the average occupancy rate of guest rooms of hotel establishments stood at 93.9% in August 2026, an uplift of 0.8 percentage points year-on-year. The rates for 4-star (94.4%) and 3-star hotels (91.1%) showed respective year-on-year growth of 5.4 percentage points and 1.2 percentage points, whereas the rate for 5-star hotels (95.1%) dropped by 0.5 percentage points.

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the electronic payment transaction values (hereinafter referred to as transaction values) for restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade in August 2026 increased by 1.8% and 7.0% year-on-year respectively. In the first eight months of 2026, the transaction values for these two industries showed respective growth of 1.9% and 13.3% year-on-year.

British education magazine—The Times Higher Education (THE)—releases its 2027 World University Rankings on 30 September, covering 2,297 institutions from 118 countries and regions. In the 2027 THE World University Rankings, the rankings of the University of Macau and Macau University of Science and Technology are about the same as in 2026, at 154^th and 269^th globally, respectively; while the City University of Macao rises from the 601–800 band to the 451–500 band.

This year marks the 31st anniversary of the Macao University of Tourism (UTM). The celebration ceremony was held at the Mong-Há Campus, where the management team and heads, faculty members, staff, students, and alumni representatives of UTM gathered to extend their wishes and blessings. This year, UTM officially commenced operations at the first-phase campus of the Macao-Hengqin International Education (University) Town, launching its Hengqin extension under the “One University, Two Campuses” model and opening a new chapter in the University’s development.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission conducted its Article IV Consultation with the Macao Special Administrative Region (Macao SAR) during 14-23 July 2026, with a preliminary concluding statement issued on 29 July. Following the IMF Executive Board’s conclusion of the consultation, the IMF published today (29 September, US time) a more detailed Staff Report for the 2026 Article IV Consultation with the Macao Special Administrative Region, providing a more comprehensive assessment of Macao SAR’s macroeconomic and financial conditions.
