October is a contribution month of the Social Security Fund. Employers are required to pay in this month the contributions of the obligatory system for their local long-term employees for the third quarter of 2019. If they have hired a non-resident worker, they are also required to pay the employment fee as well. In addition, beneficiaries of the arbitrary system are also required to pay contributions in October. To save time waiting in line, the Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) calls for members of the public to make full use of the electronic payment options. Businesses, or residents of the Islands District can also go to the Macao Government Services Centre in Islands (Area of Social Security) to make their payments.

The Macao SAR Government has received confirmation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Barbados through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China that Macao SAR passport holders do not need a visa for visiting Barbados for a stay of up to 30 days.

The Consumer Council conducted its ‘Supermarket price survey’ of the first-half of October on 3 October for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 14 supermarkets in Nossa Senhora de Fátima Parish. Consumers may now check the report data on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo), the “Supermarket Price Information Platform” app, or the Council’s WeChat account.

Chen Zhi, a PhD student from the Faculty of Law (FLL) of the University of Macau (UM),received a third prize at the 12^th China Arbitration and Justice Forum, for his paper titled ‘Some Considerations Concerning Non-litigation of Service in Arbitration’. The paper focuses on the service of documents in commercial arbitration in mainland China and proposes a more flexible, efficient, and cost-effective service system to cover the three aspects, namely legislation, arbitration practice, and judicial review.

“The 2019 Portuguese Speaking Countries Products and Services Exhibition (Macao)” (2019PLPEX) will be held from 17 to 19 October at The Venetian Macao. In order to display Macao’s achievements as a Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, the Committee for Development of the Commercial and Trade Cooperation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries decided to introduce the “China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Platform Achievement Exhibition” at the 2019PLPEX at its third meeting last year, highlighting the work the Committee for Development of the Commercial and Trade Cooperation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries has carried out between 2016 and 2019 and its outlook to implement the initiatives and action plan the Central Government put forward during the 5th Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries. In addition, the 24^th Macao International Trade & Investment Fair (24^th MIF) will continue to be held concurrently with 2019PLPEX.

The “24^th Macao International Trade and Investment Fair” (24^th MIF) will be held on 17 to 19 October at The Venetian Macao. Cape Verde and Jiangsu Province have been invited to be the “partner country” and the “partner province” respectively of this year’s fair. Through exhibitions, forum discussions, project matching and various activities, the MIF is dedicated to building a bridge for exhibitors and attendees, thus promoting regional economic and trade exchange and co-operation. In addition, the “2019 Portuguese Speaking Countries Products and Services Exhibition (Macao)” (2019PLPEX) will be held concurrently with the 24^th MIF.
